Primary Purpose
The IT Sr Systems Engineer I position serves as a senior technical role within the IT department. It requires demonstrated experience in information technology, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively independently, as a mentor, and as part of a team. The candidate will provide technical insights driving the design, implementation, and optimization of complex systems under the guidance of a Principal Engineer or Manager. Responsibilities include collaborating with IT architecture to define strategy and working with various teams to implement high-quality systems that meet business requirements. Delivers and supports IT infrastructure, product and platform solutions. Designs and delivers complex IT system initiatives, including cloud, non-cloud, and hybrid-cloud systems. Influences other IT teams, leadership, enterprise business partners, vendors and project/design teams in the secure and reliable hosting of applications throughout Exelon\'s enterprise and real-time operational environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead discussions with business partners and vendors to gather information. Write and disseminate system specifications, logical & physical architecture diagrams, and implementation plans. Deliver practical, efficient, and cost-effective solutions, including hands-on configuration, troubleshooting, optimization, and supporting metrics. (approx. 30%)
- Collaborate to develop future plans, resource requirements, migration strategies, and project schedules. Create and deliver presentations to Engineering and Architecture Review Boards. Provide oversight for less experienced engineers (approx. 25%).
- Design, support, and maintain custom system integration with other platforms to meet customer needs. Stay current with evolving IT systems technologies. (approx. 20%)
- Identify and manage risks and issues; provide supporting data to leadership and peers. (approx. 15%)
- Maintain knowledge of and compliance with preferred technologies, methodologies, standards, and policies. Demonstrate strong debugging and problem-solving skills; participate in peer code reviews. (approx. 10%)

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Networking; 4-7 years' experience in IT infrastructure design, application design, cloud computing, disaster/recovery; or 6-9 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with system administration.
- Ability to design and document processes & procedures; experience transitioning work to operational teams.
- Experience with wireless systems, mesh networks, microwave radio, LMR, and LTE/5G.
- Strong business acumen within own discipline; ability to solve complex problems and communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to influence across organizations; drive innovation and deliver with project management principles and financial impact analysis.
- Troubleshooting and monitoring: understanding monitoring tool capabilities and setting appropriate thresholds.
- Cloud technologies knowledge; scripting/automation skills (PowerShell, Ansible, or equivalent).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering.
- Experience deploying, designing, and integrating wireless systems (LMR, Microwave, Narrowband, LTE). FCC licensing familiarity.
- PE (Professional Engineer) license.
- Ability to integrate complex systems and solve engineering problems of increasing difficulty.
- Shows initiative beyond pure implementation; experience building highly scalable applications.
