Twist Bioscience in South San Francisco is seeking a Sr Supervisor to lead the Library Production Team. You will oversee the end-to-end manufacture of bespoke library products, ensuring quality, traceability, and on-time delivery while mentoring staff and maintaining strict SOP adherence.

You will collaborate with Quality and Technology Transfer groups, optimize processes, and drive improvements in a regulated, LEAN manufacturing environment to meet client demands.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of lab experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong background in molecular biology techniques including PCR, DNA/protein purification, DNA quantification, and cloning.
  • Experience operating Hamiltons and Tecans and other semi-automated/automated lab equipment.
  • Experience with LIMS/MES systems, especially when integrated with liquid-handling robots.
  • Experience in ISO, GMP, LEAN manufacturing environments.
  • Sharp data interpretation and track record of process improvements.
  • Laboratory management experience including hiring, training, and performance management.

Job description

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Sr Supervisor to join our Library Production Team in South San Francisco,CA . This team is responsible for the manufacture of high quality, bespoke variant library products across Twist Bioscience's proprietary process workflow, delivered against the Twist production forecast and timelines. This role is critical in ensuring the efficient, accurate, and timely production of high-quality library products to meet the diverse needs of our clients and partners. The Sr Supervisor will oversee all aspects of production, from initial planning and execution to quality control and delivery across all shift schedules. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a strong commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Manufacture high quality, bespoke library products in a high-throughput MFG lab according toestablished SOPs.
  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of Manufacturing Associates and supervisors involved in libraryproduction activities.
  • Hire, onboard, develop, train, performance manage, reward, and conduct corrective action withsupervisors and team members.
  • Manage team performance, including setting goals, providing feedback, conducting performancereviews, and fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Oversee the entire library production process, from raw material handling and DNA synthesisintermediates through to final product delivery.
  • Maintain thorough, accurate, and detailed documentation/databases of all work produced in batchrecords, databases, or other acceptable formats, including problems and deviations.
  • Partner with Quality leaders to assure robust manufacturing and product compliance, and ensureproduction activities are carried out in accordance with established SOPs, safety guidelines, andregulatory requirements (e.g., ISO, GMP).
  • Operate and oversee the use of basic semi-automated/automated lab equipment for molecular biologyworkflows (PCR, DNA quantitation and handling, DNA purification, bioanalyzers, centrifuges, sealers,thermocyclers, spectrometers, HPLCs, Next Gen Sequencing, etc.).
  • Track metrics on the quality of product produced via both physical and functional test methods; monitorproduction yields, efficiency, and quality metrics, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Triage in-depth and complex process investigations, as appropriate, and manage the execution ofcomplex and non-standard production orders, including process development, optimization, andtroubleshooting.
  • Proactively identify production problems and provide solutions on lab techniques, protocols, processes,handling of product, and equipment; identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities and leadtimely resolution of manufacturing issues.
  • Support cost improvement initiatives by reducing failures, improving capacity, and using supplieswisely; reduce work in process, queues, and cycle times.
  • Work closely with the Technology Transfer group to implement new processes into the manufacturingfloor, and with cross-functional teams to develop tools that facilitate production.
  • Maintain the Training Matrix for all team members and ensure ongoing compliance with trainingrequirements.
  • Work with the procurement team to ensure synthesis chemical/reagent supply meets production needs,including regularly scheduled conference calls with suppliers as needed.
  • Maintain and calibrate select lab equipment.
  • Uphold manufacturing operations to best practices, including ISO, GMP, and/or LEAN manufacturingprinciples, and follow ISO 13485 requirements.
  • Prepare and present documentation including data summaries, presentations, and technical/analyticalreports.
What You’ll Bring to the Team
  • B.S. in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field.
  • 7+ years of minimum lab experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably regulated, orequivalent education and experience.
  • Strong background in molecular biology techniques including PCR, DNA/protein purification, DNAquantification, and cell-based cloning.
  • Thorough experience operating liquid handlers such as Hamiltons and Tecans, and other semi-automated/automated lab equipment.
  • Experience with sample tracking software such as LIMS/MES systems, especially when integrated withliquid-handling robots.
  • Experience working within an ISO, GMP, LEAN manufacturing environment.
  • Sharp data interpretation acumen and a track record of delivering process improvements.
  • Laboratory management experience, including hiring, training, and performance management oftechnical staff.
  • Outstanding communication skills and emotional intelligence; able to present data effectively and prepare technical and analytical reports.
  • Self-motivated and passionate about delivering world-class DNA-based products.
  • Comfortable working in a LEAN manufacturing / controlled laboratory environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with lab automation at scale in a high-throughput manufacturing setting.
  • Experience with variant library construction workflows.
  • Experience using MES systems in addition to LIMS.
