Kiewit Power Engineering is seeking a Senior Structural Designer to join our Drafting & Design team in a flexible office setup. You will lead BIM-based design for foundations and steel structures, mentor junior designers, and coordinate with multiple disciplines to ensure safe, operable, and maintainable designs.

Ideal candidates bring 9+ years in Tekla-based structural design, CAD training, and strong communication skills to support project success across power generation markets.

• Completion of a CAD vocational training program and 9+ years of structural design experience using Tekla.

Position Overview

Kiewit Power Engineering Group is seeking a Senior structural designer, in this role you should have a good understanding of design modeling, design drawing/document creation, and data exchange using Building Information Modeling (BIM). Candidates are expected to have experience in foundation and steel design.

The ideal candidates will grow with the team by helping to establish, maintain, and improve standards and tools while contributing to project success. Candidates are expected to be a technical resource for less experienced designers and engineers. Candidates must be comfortable working closely with Structural Design Engineers and other discipline team members to drive coordination and collaboration.

District Overview

Kiewit Power Engineers delivers expertise across various power generation markets, including fossil fuels, renewables, energy storage, carbon management, geothermal, and hydrogen. Location

This position can be based in any of the following office locations: Lenexa, KS; Houston, TX; Raleigh, NC; Lone Tree, CO; Woodcliff Lake, NJ; New York, NY; or Phoenix/Tempe, AZ.

For roles in Chattanooga, TN; Detroit, MI; or Richmond, VA, the position will start remotely and transition to a hybrid/in office arrangement once the new office is established.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with other design group team members to review and exchange project information necessary for design and development.
• Checks design for consistency, safety, operability and maintenance requirements before submitting to checking.
• Reports task progress to Lead Designer.
• Gathers required information and collaborate with engineers and multiple disciplines to develop BIM models for foundations and steel structures.
• Leverages Building Information Modeling (BIM) to create plans, drawings, and details.
• Assist in the development of department standards and tools.
• Mentors other team members in design and modeling techniques.

Qualifications

• Completion of a vocational training program in Computer Aided Design and 9+ years of structural design experience using Tekla.
• Demonstrates ability to interpret multi-discipline engineering and vendor documents.
• Displays leadership and confidence to monitor peers, especially those with less experience in drafting and design.
• Must have a basic knowledge of the latest computer operating systems.
• Must be able to communicate effectively and constructively with other team members and disciplines both verbally and in written form.
• Knowledge of basic spreadsheet, database, word processing programs.
• Must have to represent Kiewit Engineering & Design Co. in a professional manner to owners, contractors, vendors and any other contacts outside the Kiewit Engineering & Design Co. organization.

Base Compensation: $133,000/yr - $139,000/yr
