BD is a global medical technology company advancing health. The Sr Staff Systems Engineer will lead design, development, and maintenance of pharmacy automation products in the Vial and Central Solutions portfolio, driving system integrity and regulatory-compliant delivery.

You will define requirements and architecture, perform risk analyses (FMEA), verify/validate, mentor engineers, and collaborate across software and hardware teams in a fast-paced, regulated environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Biomedical/Electrical/CS or related STEM field.
  • 8+ years in systems engineering, incl. electromechanical/robotics.
  • Experience across product lifecycle for complex systems.
  • Proficiency with DOORS or Jama Connect for requirements mgmt.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead systems engineering within vial and central solutions products from concept to post-market support.
  • Define and document system requirements, architecture, and design specs with regulatory compliance.
  • Perform risk analyses, FMEA, and hazard analyses for complex systems.
  • Develop and execute verification and validation plans and protocols.
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, and other teams to ensure seamless development.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.

Job Summary:

The Sr Staff Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and maintenance of pharmacy automation products in Vial and Central Solutions portfolio within the Pharmacy Automation Business. This individual will lead technical initiatives, ensure system integrity and performance, and drive continuous improvement within a regulated environment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead the systems engineering activities within the vial and central solutions portfolio products throughout their lifecycle, from concept to post-market support.
  • Define and document system requirements, architecture, and design specifications, ensuring compliance with general US based regulatory standards.
  • Perform complex system-level analysis, including risk assessments, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and hazard analysis.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive verification and validation plans and protocols, ensuring robust system testing.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with software, hardware, and other cross-functional teams to ensure seamless product development and integration.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex system-level issues, applying root cause analysis techniques.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of systems engineering processes and tools.
  • Represent the systems engineering function in technical reviews, design discussions, and regulatory audits.
Requires Skills/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in systems engineering, with a significant portion in the electromechanical and robotics products
  • Demonstrated expertise in all phases of the product development lifecycle for complex systems.
  • Proficiency in requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama Connect).
  • Experience with risk management methodologies and tools.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities, with the capacity to influence and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a highly collaborative team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Preferred Skills/Experience
  • Master's degree preferred.
