Job summary

Archer, an aerospace company based in San Jose, California, seeks a Sr. Staff System Engineer, Flight-by-Wire, to lead the development and certification of advanced FBW flight control systems.

You will manage requirements across architectures from concept to end-of-life and coordinate with international suppliers and regulatory authorities. You will oversee lab testing including HIL, support critical flight test operations, and develop comprehensive certification documentation.

Responsibilities

• Conduct discipline and systems engineering activities for the development and certification of advanced fly-by-wire (FBW) flight control systems.
• Manage complex system requirements across multiple architectural levels (system, subsystem, and equipment) throughout the complete product lifecycle.
• Provide technical leadership and oversight to international suppliers in developing lower level requirement sets.
• Lead comprehensive laboratory testing activities, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and integrated system testing, and support critical flight test operations.
• Conduct sophisticated system analysis using simulation, laboratory, and flight test data to evaluate performance against requirements.
• Lead problem investigation and root cause analysis for issues across international markets; develop certification documentation, including test procedures, compliance matrices, and safety assessments.

Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. What You’ll Do

• Lead comprehensive laboratory testing activities, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and integrated system testing, and supporting critical flight test operations that may be witnessed by various international certification authorities.
• Conduct sophisticated system analysis using simulation, laboratory, and flight test data to evaluate performance against requirements.
• Lead problem investigation and root cause analysis for issues across international markets. Develop comprehensive certification documentation, including test procedures, compliance matrices, and safety assessments for multiple regulatory frameworks.

Minimum Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field.

Minimum Experience Requirements: 10 years of experience with Fly-by-Wire system development and certification was gained. The experience must include 6 years of experience on aircraft development and certification in multiple countries with different certification authorities in 3 different jurisdictions and working with international suppliers, customers, and regulatory authorities.

Special Requirements: Must have knowledge of SAE ARP-4754A, DO-178C, DO-254 aerospace standards. Skilled with aircraft certification projects with international authorities including FAA or EASA or TCCA or ANAC or CASA or DGCA or CAAC.

Travel Requirement: 20% international travel.

At Archer we aim to attract, retain, and motivate talent that possess the skills and leadership necessary to grow our business. For this position we are offering $257,500 to $270,375 per year.
