Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is seeking a dedicated Safety Engineer to develop and govern functional safety activities for vehicle programs. You will derive HARA, FSRs, and TSRs, ensuring ASIL alignment across hardware and software, and coordinate cross-functional teams from concept to validation.

You will supervise engineers and guide integration testing at the vehicle level, maintaining a comprehensive Safety Plan. Domestic travel (~20%) is required as part of the role.

Competenze

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related field with 2 years automotive experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience.
• Experience with ISO 26262, OEM or Tier 1, cross-functional teams, and vehicle system functionality.

• Work with systems engineering to understand the expected features and functions specific to a vehicle program
• Derive detailed Hazard and Risk Assessment (HARA) and Functional Safety Requirements (FSR’s) for a vehicle platform
• Engage with core engineering functional safety engineers in driving technical content for the Technical Safety Requirements (TSR’s), hardware requirements, and software requirements, and derive ASIL metrics
• Understand high level safety implementation at a vehicle level, but be able to transition to low level architecture and how safety requirements are applied to low level hardware and software
• Oversee integration validation and testing activities between component hardware and software
• Lead Integration validation and testing at the vehicle level for functional safety requirements
• Maintain a single source Safety Plan tracking the overall safety work at vehicle, system, and component level
• Supervise engineers
• Domestic travel required approximately 20% of the time

Minimum Requirements:

• Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a closely related field and 2 years of experience involving any occupation as Engineer or related in the automotive industry, or a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent as stated above and 5 years of experience
• Must have experience working with: OEM or Tier 1 within functional safety; ISO 26262 within an OEM or Tier 1; working within a cross-functional team leading indirect reports; and vehicle system functionality and electro/mechanical control strategy
