Job summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Database Architect to design secure, scalable, and compliant database systems for a healthcare SaaS platform. You will handle PHI/PII data and ensure HIPAA/HITECH, GDPR compliance while delivering high-performance, multi-tenant solutions.

Responsibilities include building multi-tenant databases, data pipelines, encryption, RBAC, and auditability, with a focus on data governance and DR/HA strategies across AWS, Azure, and GCP environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive industry experience in enterprise technology, architecture, and systems management.
• 7+ years of experience in database architecture, preferably in SaaS environments.
• Experience building data pipelines using SSIS, Azure Data Factory or similar.
• Strong experience with data lake architectures (AWS S3, Azure Data Lake, Google Cloud Storage).
• Proven experience designing or managing data farm / distributed data platforms (Hadoop, Spark, Databricks).
• Hands-on experience handling sensitive data (PHI, PII/PPI) in regulated environments.
• Strong knowledge of HIPAA compliance, data privacy, and security frameworks.
• Expertise in relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server) and non-relational systems such as CosmosDB, MongoDB.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), especially healthcare-compliant services.

• Monitor systems for data integrity, breaches, and anomalous access patterns.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check, which includes a drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with EHR/EMR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) or healthcare integrations (HL7, FHIR)
• Familiarity with healthcare data standards and interoperability frameworks
• Experience with audit logging, compliance reporting, and risk assessments
• Certifications such as AWS Certified Security Specialty, Certified HIPAA Professional (CHP)
• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Indiana is $135,800.00–$203,750.00.
