Job summary

Valley National Bank in Wayne, NJ seeks an appraisal supervisor to lead commercial and residential review teams, ensuring accuracy and compliance with USPAP. You will play a key role in supporting the Department Manager and expanding the appraiser network while maintaining strong cross-department collaboration.

You will bid jobs to external firms, manage turnaround times, oversee external appraiser qualifications, and review reports for quality.

Responsibilities

• Supervise commercial and residential review appraisal staff.
• Assist Department Manager with all responsibilities when the manager is unavailable.
• Assist in implementing and administering appraisal guidelines, policies and procedures for residential and commercial appraisals.
• Coordinate with various departments to monitor appraisal pipelines and resolve requests and review issues.
• Maintain and expand list of approved appraisers for all property types across regions served.
• Bid appraisal jobs to outside firms and manage assignments to ensure reasonable turnaround.
• Oversee requests to ensure outside appraiser skill levels are adequate and quotes are reasonable.
• Review appraisals to ensure methodologies, market data, and analyses meet USPAP and bank standards.
• Direct administrative staff in processing and tracking appraisal requests and files.
• Travel to properties for inspections and fieldwork as needed.
• Assist in implementing new technology and software for the appraisal department.
• Prepare annual performance appraisals for staff.

Job description

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Supervise commercial and residential review appraisal staff.


• Assistant to Department Manager in all responsibilities, specifically when the Department Manager is not in the office.


• Assist in the implementation and administration of Appraisal Guidelines, policies and procedures for residential and commercial appraisals.


• Maintain contact with various departments to monitor the pipeline of appraisals and resolve problems relative to requests and review of appraisals.


• Maintain and expand list of approved appraisers for commercial and residential properties, as well as for business and FF-E valuations within all regions served by Valley National Bank or its affiliates.


• Bid appraisal jobs to outside appraisal firms and engaging them to perform the assignments for Valley National Bank as well as assuring a reasonable turn around time for completion.


• Oversee appraisal requests to ensure that the skill level outside fee appraisers is sufficient and that the fee quotes are reasonable.


• Review appraisals to insure that the methodology, market data and analyses are reasonable and that the reports conform to USPAP and Valley National Bank standards.


• Direct administrative personnel relating to the processing and tracking of appraisal requests and maintaining appraisal files.


• Travel to properties for appraisal inspections and related fieldwork as needed.


• Assist in the implementation of new technology and software applicable to the appraisal department.


• Prepare performance appraisals for staff members.
