Job summary

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Specialist, Systems Engineer to analyze, define, and manage complex system requirements across programs in Millersville, MD or Herndon, VA. You will work within MBSE frameworks to produce system specifications, interface definitions, and design artifacts.

The role requires strong communication, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and the ability to navigate DoD lifecycle processes, with on-site travel up to 15% and a security clearance to obtain.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or equivalent technical discipline with 6+ years of related experience; or a Graduate Degree with 4+ years.
• At least 2 years of systems engineering experience and government program lifecycle involvement.
• At least 1 year of experience with standard SE processes including MIL-STD-499, EIA-632, IEEE 1220 or IEEE/ISO/IEC 15288.
• At least 1 year of experience with DOORs and MBSE.

Responsibilities

• Review program objectives, system concepts, interfaces, and operations.
• Define requirements, traceability, and MBSE-based artifacts.
• Collaborate with SE teams to develop specifications, diagrams, analyses, and designs.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Essential Functions:

• Responsibilities include review, analysis, and understanding of program level objectives, system concept of operation, system and subsystem equipment, functions, interfaces, and operations.

• Responsible for requirements definition, flow-down and traceability for complex electronic systems embracing model-based systems engineering (MBSE) processes to enhance development speed and quality.

• Collaborate with other Systems Engineers in the development of work products, including: System Specifications, Logically Derived and Linked Requirements, Interface Definitions, System Diagrams, Systems Analyses, Trade Studies, and Detailed Designs.

• Development and coordination of engineering artifacts for program design reviews.

• Supports Systems Engineering execution within the business area (cost, schedule, technical).

• Evaluate overall systems project risks and support risk mitigation planning and execution with program and functional leadership.

• Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with internal and external customers.

• Analyze data from design verification test efforts.

• Able to effectively brief status and results to program and customer.

• Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. Secret security clearance.

• Willingness and ability to travel up to 15%.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or equivalent technical discipline and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Or, Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.

• At least 2 years of experience in systems engineering and the government program acquisition lifecycle.

• At least 1 year of experience working with any standard system engineering process including MIL-STD-499, EIA-632, IEEE 1220 or IEEE/ISO/IEC 15288

• At least 1 year of experience working with DOORs and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).

Preferred Additional Skills:

• Familiarity with underwater products and acoustics.

• Active DoD clearance with current 6-year update.

• Networking experience including IP addressing, switching and routing.

• Experience architecting, analyzing, developing, and integrating end to end systems in RF is a plus.

• Experience with DOORS, Cameo suite of MBSE tools or similar, MS Visio.

• Experience with Earned Value Management.

• Working knowledge of Cisco routers and switches.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $106,500 - $197,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
