L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Senior Specialist, Manufacturing Engineer in Salt Lake City to design, optimize, and sustain production processes that boost efficiency, quality, and cost performance.

You will collaborate with engineering project teams to support new product releases, develop tooling, and manage manufacturing costs and standards. Strong CAD/3D modeling, Lean/Sigma, PFMEA, and documentation skills are required to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 6+ years of relevant experience; graduate degree with 4+ years; or 10+ years without degree.
  • Strong CAD, mechanical fabrication, and 3D modeling skills; 3D printing experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, value stream mapping, and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of PFMEA, control plans, work instructions, and process validation.

L3Harris is seeking a dynamic and results‑driven Manufacturing Engineer to support the design, optimization, and maintenance of production processes that maximize efficiency, quality, and cost‑effectiveness. In a fast‑moving and increasingly complex world, this role contributes to advancing agile technologies that help create a safer and more secure future.

The Manufacturing Engineer will develop manufacturing strategies for specific products and processes, while collaborating closely with engineering project teams to support the successful release of new products. This position is responsible for estimating and tracking manufacturing costs, establishing time standards, and recommending tooling and process requirements for both new and existing product lines. The role also ensures accurate maintenance of records and reporting systems to support the coordination and continuous improvement of manufacturing operations.

Essential Functions
  • Design, optimize, and maintain manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, and cost performance
  • Develop manufacturing strategies for assigned products and production processes
  • Partner with engineering project and other cross‑functional teams to coordinate and support new and existing products.
  • Estimate and monitor manufacturing costs and production time standards
  • Recommend tooling, equipment, and process requirements for new and existing product lines. Produce in‑house tooling when capability exists.
  • Maintain manufacturing records, documentation, and reporting systems
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations
  • Evaluate and define manufacturing processes using drawings, military specifications and documentation used in the fabrication and production of military electro/mechanical products.
  • Plan, develop and facilitate the implementation of processes and procedures required to assemble CCB, electro/mechanical assemblies, subassemblies and systems to reduce cost, improve quality and scheduling.
  • Develop, maintain and generate SAP routers for new and existing products.
  • Develop and maintain Work Instructions for new and existing products.
  • Support the operational team to meet schedule, quality and cost expectations.
  • Support the operations strategic plan and maintain its alignment to the overall program strategic plan.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
  • Strong CAD, mechanical fabrication, and 3D modeling skills; 3D printing experience a plus
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, value stream mapping, and continuous improvement
  • Knowledge of PFMEA, control plans, work instructions, and process validation
Preferred Additional Skills
  • Experience with process development, optimization, and sustainment in production environments
  • Ability to lead complex manufacturing projects with minimal supervision
  • Experience with new product introduction, production transition, and ramp‑up
  • Knowledge of root cause and corrective action methods such as 8D, 5 Whys, fishbone, and CAPA
  • Experience with SPC, process capability analysis, and data‑driven decision‑making
  • Experience improving tooling, fixtures, and production layouts for safety, quality, and efficiency
  • Understanding of DFM/DFA and manufacturability principles
  • Ability to collaborate across engineering, quality, supply chain, operations, and program management
  • Experience improving cycle time, yield, throughput, labor efficiency, and cost
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (SAP preferred), MES, and production documentation control
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers, technicians, and support staff
  • Experience with supplier support, producibility issue resolution, and complex or high‑reliability manufacturing environments
  • Knowledge of equipment qualification, acceptance testing, capital equipment implementation, and factory modernization
  • Proficiency interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, BOMs, and configuration‑controlled documentation
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with focus on quality, schedule, cost, and producibility
