Responsibilities

The Lead Operator – Lilly Fire Rescue (LFR) is responsible for supporting and executing the Indianapolis emergency preparedness and response plan at various Indianapolis facilities. This position has responsibility to lead/coordinate on-site contracted responders and volunteer emergency responders to manage site emergencies. The position also interacts with, security, fire safety systems, local building staff/management teams and outside agencies (e.g., IFD, IMPD, County board of health, etc.) When not responding to emergency and special events, this position is responsible for the completion of required maintenance, inspection, and training activities.

  • Providing investigation and fire suppression activities as well as coordinating fire response with outside agencies.
  • Provide emergency medical care to sick and injured Indianapolis plant site personnel.
  • Mitigate hazmat emergencies on the Indianapolis plant sites.
  • Provide Confined Space Entry Rescue and standby services.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities in a state of response readiness.
  • Maintain departmental records/files.
  • Provide leadership in emergencies in the NIMS role of Incident Commander.
  • Perform/oversee life safety systems inspections and testing.
  • Provide stewardship/oversight of contract emergency response resources.
Conditional
  • This position is physically demanding and will be contingent upon successful completion of:
    • Physical Exam (NFPA 1582 or EHS approved)
    • Quantitative “Fit test” for Scott SCBA
    • Work Performance Evaluation

prior to scheduling start date.

  • Must not be claustrophobic or acrophobic.
  • Must hold and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Must have the ability to read maps and understand graphical data.
Basic Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma | GED
  • Must hold the following certifications:
    • Indiana State Firefighter I/II
    • Indiana State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B or higher)
    • Indiana State Hazardous Materials Technician
    • Must be “Level A Suit” personal protective equipment qualified.
    • Confined Space Rescue Technician certification must be held or obtained within first 6 months of employment.
Additional Skills / Preferences
  • Incident Command training (NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800)
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator Certification (EVOC)
  • Outside EMS/Fire Department experience.
  • Critical incident stress management experience
  • CPR Instructor and Fire Instructor 2/3
  • Familiarity with Lilly Indianapolis sites (LCC, LTC) and Lilly business units at each site.
  • Familiarity / experience working with the external fire or loss prevention agencies.
  • Experience working with personnel in the field on construction and maintenance projects related to fire safety at Lilly.
  • Experience in a positive safety culture or in helping to improve a safety culture.
  • BS or AS degree in related HSE discipline, Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced Fire Safety training preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret building blueprints and associated technical documents.
  • Effective interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Strong relationship building skills internal and external to the company.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelors Degree (or equivalent work experience)
Additional Information
  • Personnel may come in contact with areas that historically contained Cephalosporin’s, Penicillin, and allergens.
  • Persons in this position will respond to incidents whose hazards are not yet known.
  • Persons may be exposed to biological hazards as a result of EMS and hazardous materials response.
  • Fire/Chemical response to immediately dangerous to life/health (IDLH) atmospheres is a possibility.
  • Will require successful annual completion of Work Performance Evaluation (WPE).
Schedule
  • The first two weeks from hire date, employee will operate on a M-F, 8a- 4p schedule for orientation.
  • This position supports a 24/7/365 operation and will require shift work.
  • Upon successful completion of orientation, employee will be assigned to a shift schedule of 24 hours on and 48 hours off.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$25.96 - $38.08

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
