Job Description
The Senior Specialist of Automation serves as the BAS/HVAC technical authority for West Point, GWES Southeast Pennsylvania. The senior specialist is responsible for automation system performance, compliance, reliability, energy optimization, and lifecycle management. The position provides technical leadership to specialists and technicians while leading capital projects, managing change controls, supporting audits, and maintaining BAS systems in a state of GMP compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
- Lead cross-functional collaboration between GWES, Utilities, Maintenance, Quality, our Research & Development division, our Manufacturing division, and IT.
- Provide technical direction to EUTS Specialists and technicians.
- Lead investigations and resolution of systemic BAS/HVAC issues.
- Manage automation and facility system upgrade projects from scope development through commissioning and qualification.
- Serve as project manager and capital team leader for facility system projects.
Technical
- Perform BAS programming, code changes, troubleshooting, and optimization.
- Develop and maintain BAS/HVAC Master Plans and obsolescence strategies.
- Lead root cause investigations and implement long-term corrective actions.
- Define system requirements, specifications, sequences of operation, and data integrity requirements.
- Support lifecycle cost analysis, performance monitoring, and energy efficiency initiatives.
- Provide technical oversight for new construction and renovation projects.
Compliance
- Maintain BAS systems in a validated and inspection-ready state.
- Manage change controls, including SDLC documentation and approval workflows.
- Act as BAS/HVAC subject matter expert during audits and inspections.
- Ensure system documentation, SOPs, training curricula, and compliance records remain current.
- Support GMP and GLP business areas while maintaining regulatory compliance.
Functions As a Recognized Technical Expert.

- Owns strategy and lifecycle management for critical systems.

- Represents the organization during regulatory inspections.

Education:
- BS in electrical or mechanical Engineering.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in BAS/HVAC design, operation, maintenance
- Minimum of 3 year of experience in working with facilities systems
- Three years of experience and proficiency working with Siemens BAS systems.
- Experience in performing engineering calculations
- Experience in ASME, ASHRAE and building codes
Preferred Experience:
- Three years of experience with union labor
- Siemens Insight and Desigo experience.
- PE and/or PMP certifications/license
- Three years of experience in performing HVAC calculations

The salary range for this role is
$117,000.00 - $184,200.00
This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, government requirements, and business or organizational needs.
The successful candidate will be eligible for annual bonus and long-term incentive, if applicable.
