Qualifications

  • Experience in analog and digital circuit design, embedded firmware, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop specialized systems and test equipment for electronic, electro-mechanical, and mechanical products.
  • Perform extensive analog and digital circuit design, data acquisition, and system-level engineering.
  • Utilize CAE tools such as Altium and SPICE for circuit design and verification.
  • Develop embedded firmware to control hardware and work with serial protocols (RS-232, RS-422, SPI, I2C).
  • Travel up to 10% and obtain US Secret security clearance.
  • Create design reviews and technical documentation (Engineering Drawings, Calibration Procedures, Validation Procedures).
  • Modeling and simulation with SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink.

Job Description:

As our business continues to grow, we are looking to add an Electrical Engineer to our Special Test Equipment Development Engineering Group.

As a member of the L3H FOS team, your primary focus would be the development of Specialized Test Equipment used to test products through all phases of design and production. You would also assume the responsibility of presenting designs to internal and external customers for reviewing and addressing technical issues. A solid understanding of circuit theory, components, firmware, software and troubleshooting skills is required.

Essential Functions:
  • Focus on the design and development of specialized systems and special test equipment for electronic, electro-mechanical, and mechanical products.
  • Extensive analog and digital circuit design, microcontrollers, data acquisition, filtering/conditioning, printed circuit design, measurement error analysis, and future system-level engineering.
  • Utilization of CAE tools such as Altium and SPICE, and laboratory equipment such as DMMs, oscilloscopes, function generators, etc. used to perform circuit design, verification and troubleshooting.
  • Working with or creating embedded firmware to control hardware. Working with various serial communication protocols such as RS-232, RS-422, SPI, I2C, etc.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 10% of the year.
  • Must be able to obtain a US Secret security clearance.
  • Skilled in basic analog building blocks including differential amplifiers, op amps, LDOs, filters, and data converters
  • Skilled in basic digital building blocks including logic gates, flip flops, timers, and filters
  • Proficient in power supply and power conditioning design
  • Proficient in power conversion concepts (AC/DC, DC/DC, and DC/AC, Linear and Switching Supplies)
  • Proficient in serial communication buses including UART, SPI, and I2C
  • Proficient in Sensors and Converters (Temperature sensors, accelerometers, differential pressure sensors, gyroscopes, ADCs, DACs, etc.)
  • Proficient in general design best practices (EMI suppression, ESD protection, and Short circuit protection)
  • Proficient in module design including component selection, circuit analysis, circuit design, and layout
  • Skilled in troubleshooting using standard lab equipment (oscilloscopes, function generators, meters, etc.)
  • Skilled in modeling and simulation utilities (SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, etc.)
  • Proficient in schematic capture and/or board layout utilities (Altium, PADS, etc.)
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications
  • BSEE, BSCompE or BSEET with 6+ years of relevant work experience (post-graduate education also considered)
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
  • Ability to lead a large-scale technical project from start to completion with little to no guidance
  • Skilled in preparing and participating in design reviews (internal and external)
  • Expert in creating Technical Documentation (Engineering Drawings, Calibration Procedures, Validation Procedures, Operating Instructions, etc.)
  • Skilled in Engineering Change and Configuration Management processes
  • Expert in Software Development (C#, VB, .NET, LabVIEW, etc.)
  • Expert in microcontroller and CPLD/FPGA Firmware Development (Embedded C, Verilog, etc.)
  • Skilled in Wiring Diagram and Cable Assembly Design
