Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a senior embedded software engineer to define and drive avionics software across lunar programs. You will collaborate with systems, hardware, and software teams to establish requirements, verification, and testing for safety-critical software used in space vehicles.

The role emphasizes mentoring, architecture review, and cross-functional leadership to ensure robust, verifiable software for reusable space systems and mission success.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or higher in computer science, computer engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 8 years professional experience minimum.
  • Experience developing software requirements, verification plans, and test cases.
  • Experience reviewing software architecture, design, and code.
  • Experience working across systems and software disciplines, leading cross functional groups.
  • Experience in spacecraft design and operations.
  • Experience with safety critical software and software certification per NPR 7150.2D, DO-178, or related standard.

This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Role context

As part of a hardworking team of talented engineers, you will work with other software development engineers, hardware responsible engineers, systems engineers, and other discipline teams to define the embedded software applications supporting avionics components used across our Lunar programs. Software is the heart of space vehicle development so your ability to collaborate with other discipline teams effectively will be an important aspect of this role. You will also have long term vision and strategy for the products to truly sustain lunar missions.

Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. or higher in computer science, computer engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 8 years professional experience minimum.
  • Experience developing software requirements, verification plans, and test cases.
  • Experience reviewing software architecture, design, and code.
  • Experience working across systems and software disciplines, leading cross functional groups.
  • Experience in spacecraft design and operations.
  • Experience with safety critical software and software certification per NPR 7150.2D, DO-178, or related standard.
  • Experience with fault management design.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with data budgets, command and telemetry definitions, and ground system integration.
  • Experience with System Safety Assessments and reviewing safety artifacts.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Experience with Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with compiled languages, C/C++.
  • Experience with scripting languages, Python/JavaScript.
Compensation

Base Pay Range for CO applicants is $155,713.00 - $217,997.85. WA applicants is $169,347.00 - $237,085.80. Other site ranges may differ.
