Job summary

Comcast is seeking a Senior Software Engineer on the Cloud Security Engineering team to design, build, and operate reliable software platforms. You will translate complex findings into actionable workflows and automation, owning major technical areas end-to-end in a production environment.

You will design scalable systems, lead architectural decisions, and contribute hands-on in Python, FastAPI, and cloud-native tooling.

Job Summary

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Cloud Security Engineering team, you will design, build, and operate reliable software platforms that transform complex business and technical findings into clear actions teams can take. This is a senior software engineering role in the cybersecurity space, with opportunities to apply AI where it provides practical value. You will build systems that ingest information from multiple internal and external tools, apply business logic, and turn that information into workflows, recommendations, automation, and measurable outcomes. You will also help us develop agentic pipelines that coordinate tools, data, and multi-step processes. Prior AI experience is not required. We are looking for a strong engineer who can learn quickly, evaluate new technologies, and apply them thoughtfully. This is a senior, high‑impact engineering role where you will own major technical areas end-to-end. You will design systems of significant complexity, write production-quality code, make sound architectural trade‑offs, and lead implementation across services, data flows, workflow automation, and agentic pipelines. You will be expected to reason from first principles, break down ambiguous problems, learn unfamiliar tools quickly, and deliver durable software that can be operated in production.

Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who combines strong system design expertise with hands‑on software engineering and problem‑solving ability. This person will take complex or loosely defined problems, create structure around them, evaluate technical tradeoffs, design scalable solutions, and help drive those solutions through implementation and production. This role is best suited for an engineer who is comfortable operating in ambiguity, asking the right questions, challenging assumptions, and determining how a problem should be solved rather than simply executing against predefined requirements.

Core Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end design of complex, scalable, distributed systems.
• Translate ambiguous business and technical problems into practical architecture and implementation plans.
• Break large, multi-step problems into clear services, APIs, workflows, data models, and engineering deliverables.
• Evaluate architectural tradeoffs across scalability, performance, reliability, security, cost, and maintainability.
• Develop self-service tools and platforms that reduce manual processes and enable repeatable workflows.
• Design reliable systems with appropriate observability, resiliency, retries, failure handling, and operational safeguards.
• Build production-quality backend services primarily using Python and modern API frameworks such as FastAPI.
• Design and work with relational databases, including PostgreSQL, ORM patterns, schemas, and data lifecycle management.
• Build data ingestion and processing capabilities across multiple sources.
• Provide technical leadership throughout design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Lead technical and code reviews and help establish strong engineering patterns and standards.
• Mentor other engineers and influence technical direction through strong engineering judgment.
• Research and prototype new approaches across cloud-native development, workflow automation, data processing, and applied AI.
• Clearly communicate architecture and engineering decisions through technical designs, diagrams, documentation, and runbooks.

What You’ll Need:

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with ownership of production systems.
• Strong system design and architecture experience.
• Proven ability to solve complex problems with incomplete or ambiguous requirements.
• Strong hands‑on backend engineering experience with Python.
• Experience designing and building APIs, services, and distributed or service-oriented systems.
• Experience designing systems for scalability, reliability, maintainability, and failure recovery.
• Experience with public cloud environments such as AWS.
• Experience with databases and data modeling, preferably PostgreSQL or similar relational technologies.
• Experience with Docker, CI/CD, automated testing, and production deployments.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical decisions
• Ability to provide technical leadership while remaining hands‑on with engineering and implementation.
