Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus substantial work experience (at least 12 years) or a Master’s with 10+ years in software engineering.
• 8+ years of software development in Unix/Linux environments.
• Expert programming in Java and/or Python.
• Experience with Big Data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Kafka).
• Familiarity with testing, performance tuning, and data migration methodologies.
• Experience with cloud environments and CI/CD pipelines.

Verisign is looking for a Senior Engineer to join the Architecture and Infrastructure Team. In this role the Engineer will be responsible for implementing systems to gather and analyze large data sets representing network/application traffic flows, DNS and Web content data and much more to derive actionable operational and business intelligence.

The ideal Engineer is an individual who can bring ideas from all areas, is proactive, has a strong sense of urgency and ownership, and is used to deal with distributed systems, large-scale system design, networking, data storage and security. The successful candidate will support the design, development, integration, testing, deployment, and maintenance of software solutions in a collaborative Agile environment. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience with modern software engineering practices, including software integration, vulnerability management, automated testing, and CI/CD pipeline development in a big data eco-system. Successful engineers will work closely with team members to master our software and make a positive impact on projects as well as team chemistry.

The Person:

We’re looking for a highly skilled Senior Engineer who:

• Apply “Big Data” solutions to solve real customer problems using web content and traffic data
• Design, write, test, and maintain object-oriented software for collecting, storing, analyzing and reporting on big data sets, using Java, Python and various open-source technologies
• Work on systems with enormous data processing requirements and ensure all OLAs and SLAs are comfortably met
• Perform all aspects of system verification, including all phases of the testing process
• Work with application architects and developers to define test approaches, success criteria, and testing procedures to ensure quality in data, data processing, and interfaces
• Use industry best practices to deliver high-quality solutions leveraging open-source tools/toolkits and utilities with automated daily builds, tests, and deployment
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional organizations including system architects, project managers, product managers and operations
• Be a hands-on Engineer and lead by example to earn the respect as an effective technical leader
• Foster a culture of documentation and knowledge sharing across the organization
• Takes ownership and responsibility for organizational practices and processes and their continuous improvement
• Leads incident response across the engineering organization as needed to troubleshoot challenging problems that involve virtual environments, networking, kernel configs, distributed systems

Required Skills:

• Bachelor’s + 12 years OR Masters + 10 years of relevant work experience
• 8+ years of software development experience in a Unix environment
• Expert level programming experience with Java, Python or other equivalent programming language
• Experience with Big Data (Map reduce, Spark, etc) applications and jobs
• Experience with Hadoop, Hive, Kafka, Spark and other Big Data Technologies
• Experience with testing systems from existing system and functional specifications
• Experience with performance testing and tuning of big data jobs
• Experience in data migration methodologies
• Experience with RDBMs, Timeseries DBs and/or NoSQL databases
• Experience working in Linux environment
• Experience with Automation frameworks/systems like Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins
• Experience with Private or Public Cloud environments and Cloud-native application architectures
• Experience working in highly productive team environments employing agile practices

This position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a hybrid work schedule.

The pay range is $164,300 - $222,300.

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience. Verisign offers a discretionary bonus which is based on individual and company performance, and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards.
