Job summary

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science or equivalent; 4+ years of industry experience.
• Deep, hands-on Python development experience.
• Infrastructure as code experience (Terraform on AWS), containerized with Docker.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD deployment pipelines and testing frameworks.
• Experience operating distributed systems at scale, with debugging and observability.

23andMe sits on one of the largest and most scientifically rich genetic datasets in the world. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build and operate the systems that make that data meaningful — powering everything from ancestry features and DNA relatives to health insights and machine learning pipelines that serve millions of customers.

Our Engineering team is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA, and this position will follow our hybrid work model.

What You’ll Bring

• B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent; 4+ years of industry experience
• Deep, hands-on Python: libraries, services, data pipelines
• Infrastructure as code experience, ideally in Terraform on AWS, containerized in Docker
• Hands-on experience working with CI/CD deployment pipelines and testing frameworks
• Experience operating distributed systems at scale: debugging, observability, performance tuning

Pay Transparency

23andMe takes a market-based approach to pay, and amounts will vary depending on your geographic location. The salary range reflected here is for a candidate based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

San Francisco Bay Area Base Pay Range $160,000-$200,000
