Job summary

Curtiss-Wright Corporation's Nuclear division in Frederick, MD is seeking a Principal Software Developer to serve as the senior technical authority, defining software architecture and guiding long-term platform planning for complex programs.

You will lead enterprise-level architecture, direct development, integrate systems across hardware, software, and product teams, and mentor senior engineers while ensuring security, reliability, and regulatory compliance in demanding environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 12–15+ years of software engineering experience with leadership responsibility across large programs or enterprise platforms.
  • Subject matter expert in software architecture, systems integration, design patterns, and large-scale application development.
  • Experience resolving complex challenges across distributed systems, embedded platforms, or multi-layered software environments.
  • Strong fluency in modern programming languages, methodologies, and lifecycle management.
  • Experience defining software engineering strategy, standards, roadmaps, and organizational improvements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management, including executive/customer interactions.
  • Knowledge of regulatory, cybersecurity, safety, or compliance standards relevant to software-intensive systems.
  • Proven mentorship of senior engineers.

  • Direct development, integration, testing, and optimization of advanced software solutions with security and reliability in mind.
  • Identify and resolve cross-system risks, drive modernization and tooling improvements, and guide adoption of new technologies.
  • Oversee collaboration with hardware, systems, and product teams to translate objectives into technical roadmaps and implementation plans.
  • Mentor senior staff, support customer and regulatory engagements, and influence strategic software decisions.
