Job summary

Amazon Leo for Government (ALG) Engineering is seeking a Sr Software Dev Engineer to design, develop, and own software tooling and frameworks for integration testing in lab environments supporting space-based and terrestrial applications.

You will lead end-to-end development of test automation and CI/CD‑integrated tooling, mentor engineers, and collaborate with systems, hardware, and program teams to deliver scalable, reliable verification solutions.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience.
  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own the technical vision, architecture, and long-term roadmap for test automation frameworks, orchestration platforms, and CI/CD-integrated tooling consumed by I&T engineers and subsystem teams in hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and system lab environments.
  • Lead the end-to-end design, development, and evolution of software tooling — including test algorithms, scripts, calibration routines, and data visualization — required for verification and validation of complex hardware systems; drive architectural decisions that balance scalability, reliability, and maintainability across multiple product lines.
  • Establish and evangelize tooling best practices, coding standards, and reference architectures across the lab engineering organization; champion patterns for automation, observability, and infrastructure-as-code that raise the engineering bar org-wide and influence adjacent teams.
  • Analyze test data at scale and engage cross-functionally with engineering leadership, partners, suppliers, and customers to evaluate product performance, identify systemic trends, and drive proactive improvements that reduce defect escape rates.
  • Author and present technical design documents, test strategy white papers, and executive-level reports documenting test results, coverage, performance metrics, and KPIs; influence prioritization decisions through data-driven communication with senior leadership.
  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of test anomalies, defects, and systemic failure modes; lead root-cause investigations, define corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across control systems in a high-rate production environment.
  • Identify strategic gaps in test infrastructure, author proposals with cost-benefit analysis, and drive multi-quarter implementation plans — making pragmatic tradeoffs between speed, long-term maintainability, and organizational scalability.
  • Mentor and develop mid-level and junior engineers through technical design reviews, code reviews, architecture discussions, and career development guidance; raise the engineering bar across the team.
  • Drive cross-organizational collaboration with systems engineers, hardware teams, program management, and external partners to ensure tooling supports all phases of integration, test, verification, and validation across satellite and ground element campaigns; represent the team in technical reviews and architecture forums.

Job description

Sr Software Dev Engineer, ALG Software and Network Integration and Test

Amazon Leo is a initiative within Amazon that aims to revolutionize global connectivity through the development of a state-of-the-art Low Earth Orbit (LEO) interconnected satellite communication constellation. Our mission is to bridge the digital divide by delivering high-speed, low latency, internet services to underserved and unserved communities and remote communities around the world. By leveraging satellite technology, we are working towards a future where everyone has access to reliable and high-quality internet connectivity regardless of their location.

The Amazon Leo for Government (ALG) Engineering organization is a multi-disciplinary technology team established to rapidly address the needs of targeted government and international customers with specific solutions that have the potential to scale. ALG Engineering leads the development and delivery of targeted and scalable solutions for custom space and terrestrial applications. ALG collaborates closely with Project LEO to leverage the constellation of advance satellites to provide seamless and efficient communication capabilities to meet the needs of our customers. The ALG Engineering team is seeking highly technical and talented individuals who are passionate about creating unique solutions that result in a positive impact on a global scale.

In the Integration & Test (I&T) team, you will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary team to design, develop, and own software tooling and frameworks that enable integration testing within system lab environments for space-based and terrestrial applications. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering and systems verification — you will define how teams test, not just what they test.

Working within Amazon Leo for Government (ALG) Engineering Integrated Systems Solutions, you will architect and deliver reusable test platforms, automation frameworks, and lab infrastructure software that accelerate verification of complex integrated hardware and software systems. You will serve as the technical owner of lab tooling strategy, driving decisions on architecture, interfaces, and developer experience while collaborating across inter-disciplinary teams, partners, and suppliers.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working on complex Hardware/Software systems with a diverse set of talented individuals, as well as with partner organizations.

Security Clearance: This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen and candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance of TS/SCI. This position requires that the candidate selected be a U.S. Citizen in order to comply with U.S. government-imposed requirements related to the nature of the work and/or where it will be performed.
