Job summary

RESA Power, LLC is seeking a Sr. Service Field Technician to perform operation, maintenance, installation and troubleshooting of switchboards, switchgear, MCCs, transformers, and related equipment at customer sites across the United States.

The role involves testing, inspecting, and repairing LV/MV equipment up to 38 kV, managing small to large projects, and delivering excellent customer service with strong communication.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with 5 years in a related field.
  • Knowledge of NEC and industry standards (NETA, OSHA, IEEE, NFPA).
  • Strong LV/MV equipment experience through 38 kV class.
  • Experience with MCCs, breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, and switchgear startup to 38 kV.
  • Military training accepted (Prime Power, etc.)
  • Experience generating on-site reports and maintaining budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, test, repair, and service LV switchboard, switchgear, MCC, and transformers.
  • Communicate with clients and management to resolve issues.
  • Prepare project estimates and help scope expansion and extra charges.
  • Inspect sites, report problems to Sales/PM.
  • Ensure safety and maintain a clean work area.
  • Produce final test reports in company software; on-site service as directed.
  • Work overtime including weekends/holidays as needed.

Job description

Position Summary:

A Sr. Service Field Technician requires a qualified, service-oriented individual to perform operation, maintenance, installation and troubleshooting of Switchboards, Switchgear, Motor Control Centers, Transformers, and associated equipment. A qualified individual must be able to test, inspect, troubleshoot, operate breakers, switches, MCC Buckets. They must be able to manage small to large size projects with good supervisory and organizational skills. They must be self-directed and very committed to customer satisfaction. Excellent communication skills with clients, peers and management are essential.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Primary responsibility will be to perform trouble shooting, electrical / testing, repairs and service on LV Switchboard, Switchgear, MCC, and transformers.
  • Communicate with clients, peers and management for effective problem resolution and transfer of pertinent information.
  • Maintain strong client relationships, prepare project estimates, expand project work scopes and assist in negotiating extra charges.
  • Ability to walk through customers sites, inspect problem(s) and report problem(s) to Sales and Project Management.
  • All work and decisions shall be conducted in strict compliance of all regulatory laws.
  • Responsible for the quality control of the LV Switchboard, Switchgear, MCC, and transformers. Specific items include Complete final test report, ensure all warning signs, nameplate, etc. are on the equipment and ensure final pictures have been taken for file and customer.
  • Responsible for testing LV Switchboard, Switchgear, MCC, transformers, etc as assigned as per company and customer expectations.
  • Complete test reports in company software in a timely manner.
  • As directed, complete service and repair work at Customer location(s).
  • Must be able to work weekly and/or weekend overtime. Holiday work is scheduled as per business/Customer need.
  • Comply with all safety requirements, including proper use of personal protective equipment and operation of equipment in a safe and competent manner. Understand and meet all departmental safety objectives and goals.
  • Keep assigned work-area clean, organized, and orderly. Ensure all safety and industrial hygiene requirements are maintained.
  • Work with members of a team to effectively complete work assignment. Receive information from team members regarding customer needs and product requirements and utilize this information to perform ones function.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • High School diploma/GED or equivalent experience and 5 years of experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and various industry standards, such as NETA, OSHA, IEEE and NFPA.
  • Strong background and experience in most types of Low, and Medium voltage equipment through the 38 kV class.
  • Prefer experience with most of the following or similar: MCCs, Breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, performing start-up on switchgear up through 38kV class, etc. or training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, NAVY or another related program)
  • Experience using the following machinery and skill set: Press Brake (Steel and Copper), Lathe, End Mill, Shear, CNC, and Welding.
  • Complete projects consistently on budget and at a reasonable contribution.
  • Ability to complete on-site job reports.
  • Valid drivers license with a Class A CDL is preferred.

Additional Information

Travel: 25%-50%

Compensation: $44-$50/ Hr.

Working Environment:

- Employee will be exposed to:

  • Extensive travel
  • Emergency call back procedures twenty-four hours a day. Required to work rotating shifts, which includes evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Variable outdoor environmental temperatures including steady rainfall, fog, snow, and freezing conditions
  • extreme heat and/or humid conditions
  • Energized electrical work on equipment or systems operating at greater than 600 volts; extremely hazardous environments with risk of electrocution

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be willing to work and/or drive periodic workdays in excess of 12 hours.
  • Must understand special hazards associated with high voltage equipment.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures and weather conditions for various periods of time.
  • Must have excellent balance and able to maintain body equilibrium that exceeds what is normal for ordinary locomotion.
  • Must have good eye/hand coordination.
  • Ability to move hands and manipulate objects easily and skillfully.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs in operating unit.
  • Must be able to climb up and down on ladders at varying heights with fall restraint.
  • Must be able to enter and move about in confined spaces and wear personnel protective equipment.
  • Ability to sit, bend, stretch, twist, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to a maximum of 50 pounds.
  • Adequate olfactory and auditory abilities.
  • Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Must display ability to read and understand job descriptions, safety/technical manuals and safety/warning signs.
  • Will be required to pass physical, drug, and alcohol testing.
