Job summary

Amazon Security in Seattle seeks a Senior Security Engineer to partner with software teams to keep customers safe while building new services. You will inspect code for security issues, build frameworks to accelerate secure development, and help design secure architectures.

This role requires leadership by influence, excellent communication to technical and non-technical audiences, and the ability to prioritize risks across disparate opinions to guide secure solutions while reducing on-call time.

Qualifications

• 4+ years troubleshooting systems issues, analyzing logs, or automating complex tasks using command line tools experience.
• 5+ years of work in identifying security issues and risks, and developing mitigation plans experience.
• 4+ years of (non-internship) scripting, programming, and security code review in common programming languages experience.
• Knowledge of at least two of the following programming languages: Scala, Java, Python, C/C++, or Go
• Experience in one or more security domains: access-control, network security, application- and system-development security, security architecture and models, cryptography, and operations security
• 8+ years of Application Security or Development experience

As a Senior Security Engineer, you will collaborate with software development teams to ensure we keep our customers safe while developing these novel services. In a given day, you might be inspecting an application’s code for security issues, building a new framework to help our software developers build faster and more securely, or fine-tuning the design for a new service alongside its software developers.

The ideal candidate combines technical acumen with an ability to lead by influence and communicate clearly. Technically, this person will be a security generalist with one or more areas of deep expertise. In their communication, they will clearly articulate risks to technical and non-technical audiences alike. Interpersonally, successful candidates will effectively harmonize disparate opinions while effectively prioritizing risks to guide their partners towards secure solutions.

Basic Qualifications

• 4+ years of non-internship background in troubleshooting systems issues, analyzing logs, or automating complex tasks using command line tools experience
• 5+ years of work in identifying security issues and risks, and developing mitigation plans experience
• 4+ years of (non-internship) scripting, programming, and security code review in common programming languages experience
• Knowledge of at least two of the following programming languages: Scala, Java, Python, C/C++, or Go
• Experience (non-internship) in industry-based security vulnerabilities identification, attack patterns, and remediation techniques
• Experience in one or more of the following domains: access- control system and methodology, network security, application- and system-development security, security architecture and models, cryptography, and operations security
• 8+ years of Application Security or Development experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with security in service-oriented architectures/microservices and web services
• CCSP (Certified Cloud Security Professional) or CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker) or CFR (CyberSec First Responder) or Cloud+ or CySA+ (CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst) or GCED (GIAC Certified Enterprise Defender) or GICSP (Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional) or PenTest+

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
