Job summary

A leading technology consulting firm is seeking a Sr. Scrum Master with extensive experience in Agile methodologies. This hybrid role is based in Reston, VA, where you will guide multiple Scrum teams, facilitate Agile ceremonies, and foster continuous improvement. The ideal candidate has over 8 years in Agile, strong communication skills, and a solid background in cloud environments. Certification in SAFe Scrum Master is preferred.

Job Title: Sr. Scrum Master
Job Location: Reston, VA (Hybrid – Once in a Week)
Job Type: Contract

Role Overview

Seeking an experienced Scrum Master (or Release Train Engineer) with a strong technical background in software development and cloud (AWS) environments. The role leads multiple cross-functional Agile teams or ARTs under SAFe, fostering Agile maturity, continuous improvement, and collaboration across teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Facilitate Agile ceremonies (Daily Stand-ups, Iteration Planning, PI Planning, Retrospectives, SoS).
• Drive continuous improvement and measure progress with Agile metrics.
• Support Product Owners/Managers with backlog management and prioritization.
• Eliminate impediments and improve team communication and flow.
• Coach teams on Agile principles, SAFe practices, and Lean mindset.
• Lead or participate in Release Train coordination and execution.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years experience with Agile/Lean methodologies, including 3+ years as Scrum Master/Kanban Lead.
• Proven track record leading multiple Agile teams toward measurable maturity.
• Strong knowledge of Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, DevOps, and Test Automation practices.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills.
• Bachelor s degree (or 4 years additional experience in lieu).

Preferred Skills

• SAFe Scrum Master / RTE Certification.
• Hands‑on experience with Java, Spring, API, AWS, or Agentic AI teams.
• Experience with value stream mapping, Theory of Constraints, and system-level optimizations.

Lumen and / or its clients will not provide equipment (Laptop, monitor, etc.) to the selected contractor. The contractor must have their own equipment. Access to a virtual desktop set up (software) will be provided by Lumen s client, allowing the user access to the required systems and technology.
