Job summary

Metra is seeking a Schedule Management Specialist to lead the Capital Delivery Master Program Schedule in Northeastern Illinois. You will develop templates, train staff, and ensure accurate cost integration using Primavera P6, CPM methods, and PMIS systems.

The role requires seven+ years of experience in infrastructure scheduling, strong communication, and the ability to travel across the Metra region. A Bachelor's degree is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • At least seven years of schedule creation and management experience, preferably in infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
  • Knowledge of CPM scheduling, schedule cost-loading, and Earned Value Management.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to train staff and integrate schedule with cost data.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel within/outside Metra's region.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and manage the Capital Delivery Master Program Schedule.
  • Create and maintain project schedule templates for all phases.
  • Identify training needs and deliver schedule management training to staff.
  • Develop and update schedule management processes for consistency.
  • Manage the Schedule Management System within the PMIS.
  • Verify compliance with the work breakdown structure of tasks.
  • Promote safe work practices and maintain a safe environment.
  • Perform related duties to meet organizational needs.

Compensation

$86,686.00 – $130,030.00

Overview

The final salary will depend on the candidate's qualifications. Those with 8 years or more of required experience can expect offers up to the midpoint of the salary range. Metra provides full pay ranges so candidates can consider their growth potential.

Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry Counties. The agency links communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient commuter service.

This department oversees the design and construction of Metra capital projects and the work of contractors implementing these projects. Capital projects overseen by this group include stations and parking as well as structural, electrical, and mechanical design.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, update, and manage the Capital Delivery Master Program Schedule, ensuring project data is entered and updated correctly, templates are used properly, and questions are answered.
  • Develop and maintain project schedule templates covering all phases of project scope development.
  • Identify and prioritize training needs, develop training materials, and deliver schedule management training to staff.
  • Develop and update schedule management processes and procedures to ensure consistency of operations.
  • Manage all aspects of the Schedule Management System within the Project Management Information System (PMIS), ensuring system structure is compatible and integrates with other Project Controls functions and systems.
  • Verify compliance with the established work breakdown structure of project tasks.
  • Promote safe work practices and maintain and foster a safe work environment.
  • Perform related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
Requirements
  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  2. At least seven years of schedule creation and management experience, preferably in an infrastructure-related field.
  3. Considerable knowledge of schedule management software, including Oracle Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
  4. Considerable knowledge of Critical Path Methodology scheduling.
  5. Knowledge of schedule cost-loading and Earned Value Management.
  6. Good organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  7. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Skilled in integrating schedule and cost data.
  9. Proficient in Oracle Primavera P6 and Microsoft 365.
  10. Ability to create a program-level project schedule by working with project managers, discipline subject matter experts, and contractor schedules.
  11. Ability to complete assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  12. Ability to work well with others and conduct training with multidisciplinary members.
  13. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be able to operate a vehicle.
  14. Must be willing to travel within and outside of Metra's 6-county region.
  15. Must be available to work flexible hours in the early morning, late afternoon, evenings, or weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Project Management Professional certification.
