Job summary

The Travelers Indemnity Company is seeking a Senior Sales Executive to lead high-value agency relationships across a defined U.S. territory.

You will drive growth through strategic sales plans, facilitate agent appointments, and mentor junior team members while leveraging data-driven insights. This role emphasizes in-person and virtual engagement, strong negotiation, and collaboration with Product, Underwriting, and Operations to optimize revenue streams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in sales, marketing, business or related field.
  • Five+ years of insurance sales or related experience.
  • CIC (or willingness to pursue).
  • Extensive knowledge of Travelers products and P&C marketplace.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability to collaboratively build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to define goals and priorities and meet them.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, influence, and implement advanced sales strategies to expand and manage a high-value portfolio of business, with the objective of driving profitable growth.
  • Own assigned territory, including business development, leveraging performance metrics to create annual plans and manage territorial performance.
  • Conduct comprehensive agency diagnostics to assess performance and identify strategic growth opportunities.
  • Facilitate high-level agency appointments and build long‑term relationships through office visits (in-person and virtual).
  • Prospect, onboard and set performance goals for new agencies, while providing training and support.
  • May pre‑qualify accounts as needed.
  • Influence key agency partners through exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, such as Product, Underwriting, and Operations to align sales strategies with broader objectives.
  • Understand Travelers Enterprise focus and seize opportunities to cross-sell Travelers products by initiating cross-functional meetings.
  • Maintain knowledge of competitor products and local market trends and regulatory environment impact on agency business.
  • Facilitate workshops and lead point-of-sale presentations for internal and external audiences.
  • Participate in and may lead team or cross-team projects.
  • Provide training, coaching and mentoring to junior staff.

Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?

The Sales Executive Team is dedicated to navigating and managing a high performing sales culture in-person and/or virtually which contributes to the overall success of the Select business. The team executes on industry-leading sales strategies aligned with business objectives, builds effective relationships with customers, distribution partners and fellow employees, and creates tactical sales plans for profitable growth through extensive product knowledge and state of the art sales and influencing tactics. The team also uses digitally advanced strategies to move the business forward, leads the relationships with our aggregator/networking groups, and partners with the agent to imbed into higher producing revenue streams. As a Senior Sales Executive, Select, you will manage and develop a complex group of Travelers agency assignments/territories as a Subject Matter Expert, optimize growth within defined new business, retention and profitability goals and deliver success within Travelers' framework of Corporate values. You will act as a brand ambassador to sell the Travelers value proposition to distribution partners. You may also be responsible for mentoring, coaching or managing less experienced members of the team. This position is an outside sales position where assigned distribution relationships within the geographic territory tend to be best served through an in-person sales strategy.

  • Understand Travelers Enterprise focus and seize opportunities to cross‑sell Travelers products by initiating cross‑functional meetings. Identify book transfer opportunities.
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of competitor products and capabilities and local market trends and understands impact of state regulatory environment on agency business.
  • Responsible for facilitating workshops and actively leading point of sale presentations for both internal and external audiences.
  • Participate in and may lead team, cross team and/or cross business related projects.
  • May provide training, coaching and mentoring to Associate Sales Executives and Sales Executives or manage staff on limited basis.
  • Utilize sophisticated data and analytics to guide strategic sales decisions, measure performance metrics and identify opportunities for additional products and services to maintain a balanced portfolio.
  • Leverage thorough knowledge of Travelers' systems and platforms to support the sales process.
  • Leverage AI technologies to optimize industry processes, enhance decision‑making, and drive innovation, while continuously learning and adapting to emerging AI trends and tools.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
  • Bachelor's degree in sales, marketing, business or related field.
  • Five or more years of insurance sales or related experience in managing a book of business, driving significant sales growth, achieving sales targets, conducting agency diagnostics and utilizing digital sales tools.
  • Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) (or willingness to pursue).
  • Extensive knowledge of Travelers products and general Property & Casualty marketplace.
  • Extensive influencing and negotiation skills to encourage agency partners to adopt Travelers products and services.
  • Proven ability to collaboratively build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to define goals and priorities and meet these goals in a timely manner.
  • Exceptional organizational skills to manage complex tasks and priorities and meet sales goals and deadlines effectively.
  • Demonstrated skills in coaching, training and mentoring others.
What is a Must Have?
  • Four years of sales experience within the insurance industry.
  • Must live in the territory that they manage and have the ability to travel up to 75% of the time.
