Job description

We're building safety-enhancing technology for aviation that will save lives. Automated aviation systems will enable a future where air transportation is safer, more convenient and fundamentally transformative to the way goods — and eventually people — move around the planet. We are a team of mission-driven engineers with experience across aerospace, robotics and self-driving cars working to make this future a reality.

As an RF Test Engineer, you will be a part of our Test Engineering team working directly with our radar development program. We enjoy a culture of sharing information and collaboration. Phased array radar systems have historically been reserved for specialized applications, but we’re making this technology affordable to enable Detect and Avoid for widespread commercial applications. This role will focus on new advanced operational modes. The passion for revolutionary technology to make aviation safer motivates us to come in every day.

Responsibilities

In your role as a Radar Test Engineer, you will be responsible for testing and calibration of our next-generation Active Electronic Scanning Array (AESA) Radar system. You will own the engineering and production testing of the digital, RF and antenna circuit cards. In addition you will drive the test and calibration equipment for our AESA radar system in collaboration with the Radar hardware design team.

You will be collaborating with cross-functional teams, including radar, mechanical and system engineering. Together with those teams you will support radar system integration, testing in the engineering lab and on the aircraft, as well as supporting data collection and system check out flights. You will be responsible for the certification of our radar systems to DO-160 environmental, DO-254 design assurance, and FCC certification.

Required Skills
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of professional hands-on experience with with RF testing and antenna range wireless testing
  • Ability to design complex RF test systems
  • Experience writing and executing test plans for functional and environmental testing
  • Experienced in using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers and vector network analyzers
  • Experience using Python commands for automating test
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in flight testing of advanced RF systems
  • Experience developing system architectures and managing requirements for certification of avionics
  • Creative problem solver that can bring multiple disciplines together, with the ability to assess risk and make design decisions without all available data
  • Experience integrating and troubleshooting various electronic sensors and componentsRF circuit design experience up to 12GHz
  • DO-160 and DO-254 hardware design assurance experience.
