Job summary

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is seeking a Sr. Resident Engineer for the Remote/Teleworker role within the Advanced Services team.

You will be the primary technical contact for a single customer, focusing on break/fix, deep diagnostics, and advising on Junos configurations and network design. The role requires expert routing and switching knowledge, experience with MPLS/IS-IS/BGP/VPN, Junos and EVO, and automation in Python/Bash.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical or related Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • 10 years of experience.
  • Fluent in English; strong communication skills.

  • Manages and expands relationships with internal and outsourced development partners on engineering design and development.

  • Provides domain‑specific expertise and overall engineering leadership and perspective to cross‑organization projects, programs, and activities
  • Drives innovation and integration of new technologies into projects and activities in the engineering design organization.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to less‑experienced staff members.

Job Description

The Resident Engineer reports into the Client Management division of HPE Networks as part of the Advanced Services (AS) team, typically dedicated to a single customer. Resident Engineers are expected to be fluent not only in Juniper Networks technology and general networking, but also in the specific customer deployments and use cases they support.

Resident Engineers serve as the primary technical support contact for customers who purchase Advanced Services and work directly with the customer on a daily basis. They are entrusted with access to customer production equipment in order to perform their duties. In this position, the primary role is focused on “break/fix” activities, where the engineer’s mastery of in‑depth diagnostics enables rapid restoration of network assets and helps prevent future issues. Additional tasks involve providing consultation on best practices in Junos configurations and network design.

There is an expectation of up to10% travel to visit other customer sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the HPE product subject matter expert in networking technologies, providing assistance to the customer in areas such as network design, troubleshooting, hardware and software testing, documentation, best practices, and automation.
  • Manages and expands relationships with internal and outsourced development partners on engineering design and development.
  • Reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with technology and development guidelines and standards; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality.
  • Provides domain‑specific expertise and overall engineering leadership and perspective to cross‑organization projects, programs, and activities
  • Drives innovation and integration of new technologies into projects and activities in the engineering design organization.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to less‑experienced staff members.
Education and Experience Required
  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in Electrical, or other Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • 10 years experience.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Expert level knowledge in Tier 1 ISP routing with MPLS/IS-IS/BGP/VPN including troubleshooting.
  • Expert level knowledge in routing, switching, and network architecture.
  • Experience with multicast, segment routing, LDP, RSVP, MVPN.
  • Experience with HPE Juniper products such as MX, QFX, PTX, and EX series.
  • Experience implementing and troubleshooting Junos and Junos EVO software features, as well as associated hardware.
  • Ability to develop automation in Python, Bash and SLAX or similar scripting languages.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language. Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at senior management levels.
  • Knowledge of SQL is a Plus, JNCIE-SP is a Plus, VXLAN/EVPN a Plus.
  • Ability to interact with customers effectively and patiently during outage situations.
