Job summary

Milwaukee Tool is seeking a Senior Reliability Engineer to contribute to the development and qualification of power tool products within the New Product Development team. The role requires strong cross-functional communication with engineering, manufacturing and marketing to ensure reliability, quality and testing requirements are met.

The position emphasizes data-driven analysis, Weibull modeling and root-cause investigation, with travel up to 25% domestically and internationally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with 7 years of relevant reliability/quality experience OR Master's degree with 5 years of experience.
• Experience includes new product commercialization, design, manufacturing, quality, testing and reliability activities.
• Proficiency in quality engineering fundamentals and leading project teams.
• Design of Experiments, life data analysis and related statistical tools (e.g. Minitab, ReliaSoft).
• Experience with lithium ion battery tools and technology is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Act as subject matter expert on product reliability, user requirements and warranty information for new designs and engineering changes.
• Identify critical-to-quality requirements for mechanical and electrical design features through User Need Research.
• Lead risk assessments for new product development during the product development cycle.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Marketing to define specifications for reliability, quality, and testing.
• Interact with US and Asian suppliers involved in product development.

The Senior Reliability Engineer's primary duties are to utilize advanced level engineering skills to contribute to the development and qualification of power tool products. The Senior

Reliability Engineer is a critical member of the New Product Development Team. This position requires strong cross-functional communication skills and analytical expertise to help launch new, exciting and innovative solutions that meet user needs in a fast-paced environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Product Development

• Act as subject matter expert with respect to product reliability, user requirements and warranty information for new product designs and engineering changes
• Participate in User Need Research to identify “critical to quality” (CtQ) requirements on mechanical and electrical design features
• Support Advanced Engineering activities targeted at CtQ needs
• Collaborate with Engineering and Marketing to define the products' specifications with respect to all aspects of reliability, quality and testing
• Design experiments and techniques to improve development efforts
• Lead Risk Assessments (Design and Manufacturing) for new product development projects during the product development cycle
• Interact with US and Asian suppliers that participate in product development

Testing/Analysis

• Develop test plans and procedures to ensure products meet customer requirements
• Ensure test laboratories implement test plans/procedures and best practices
• Analyze, draw conclusions, report and present product information utilizing statistical techniques such as Weibull analysis, reliability distributions/matrices and reliability models.
• Draw concise, logical, written conclusions from experiments based on data analysis
• Ensure timely failure reporting and lead root cause analysis and effective corrective/preventative actions (FRACA)

Job Requirements

• A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field and 7 years of experience in similar reliability and quality role OR a Master of Science Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field and 5 years of experience in similar reliability and quality role.
• Experience must include:
  • New product commercialization processes emphasizing design, manufacturing, quality, test and/or reliability activities
  • Training in quality engineering fundamentals and proven experience leading a primary function within a project team
  • Design of Experiments, life data analysis, and other related statistical tools and software (i.e. Minitab, Reliasoft)
• Experience with lithium ion battery tools and technology is a plus
• Ability to travel up to 25% of the time (includes both domestic and international)
