Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. seeks an experienced environmental compliance leader to design, implement, and monitor programs across AWS data centers and construction sites in the VA region.

You will work with stakeholders to ensure adherence to environmental regulations and drive cost-efficient, compliant operations. You will lead audits, investigations, and reporting, while collaborating with legal and compliance teams to interpret requirements and improve processes.

Key job responsibilities

• Regular interactions with our external and internal stakeholders delivering environmental compliance leadership and guidance;


• Develop and implement environmental standards, policies and practices including, but not limited to; environmental management systems, training, risk assessments, and applicable environmental regulations;


• Conduct environmental compliance audits of data centers and active construction sites to ensure compliance with environmental requirements and for continuous improvement;


• Perform environmental incident investigations and associated regulatory reports, and develop appropriate corrective actions.


• Maintain accurate compliance record, documentation and data integrity.


• Perform data trend analysis to present to cluster leadership to support business and environmental compliance initiatives.


• Consult and partner with compliance and legal teams for interpretations and guidance.


• Represent Amazon at appropriate levels with governmental agencies and throughout the company;


• Prepare and submit time-critical reports to various governmental agencies;


• Identify improvement opportunities and partner with internal teams on programmatic issues that impact construction/operations handover phases.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience developing and implementing environmental compliance programs including regulated waste, water, and air regulations in accordance with applicable laws


• BA/BS degree in environmental science, chemical or environmental engineering, or related field of study;


• 7+ years serving as an environmental technical resource, compliance specialist, program specialist, or program manager;


• Experience with regulatory assessments and managing environmental compliance related to areas such as air quality, water quality, waste management, and hazardous materials


• Applied knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental laws, regulations, and standards related to areas such as air quality, water quality, waste management, and hazardous materials.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience handling ambiguous or undefined challenges through strong problem solving abilities


• Experience using data and metrics to back up assumptions, evaluate outcomes, and make data-driven decisions


• Master's degree or equivalent in environmental or chemical engineering, or a related field of study

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
