Job summary

Westinghouse Nuclear is seeking a Senior Radiation Protection Technician to provide coverage and oversight for power-plant activities. You will perform radiation and contamination surveys, material surveys, and personnel/material releases, while supporting ALARA planning and decontamination efforts.

Position requires a High School Diploma or GED, the ability to obtain a Level II Nuclear Access Badge, and adherence to OSHA, DOT, EPA regulations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must obtain Level II Nuclear Access Badge.
  • Meet ANSI N-18.1 (1971) and ANSI N-3.1 (1978) requirements.
  • Complete GAP training / CIRP Task of the NISP-RP-12 (Nuclear Industry Standard Process).
  • Individual tasks may require specialized training per OSHA, DOT and EPA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct radiation and contamination surveys.
  • Perform material and equipment surveys.
  • Assist with release of personnel and materials.
  • Provide material escort as needed.
  • Participate in ALARA planning.
  • Assist with decontamination activities.
  • Support Site Emergency Plan.
  • Cover primary work activities as required.

++SR Radiation Protection Technician++

Provide Radiation Protection coverage and oversight as required for power-plant activates. In addition to providing job coverage, certain routine tasks may be assigned commensurate with individual certifications, qualifications, and skills. Types of tasks RP Technicians may perform include the following:

  • radiation and contamination surveys
  • material and equipment surveys
  • release of personnel and material
  • material escort
  • ALARA planning
  • assisting with decontamination activities
  • support of Site Emergency Plan
  • coverage of primary work activities same as JR coverage.
++Education / Training Requirements++
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Satisfy all requirements required to obtain a Level II Nuclear Access Badge
  • Education and experience meet or exceed the requirements of ANSI Standard N-18.1 (1971).
  • Education and experience meet or exceed the requirements of ANSI Standard N-3.1 (1978).
  • Competition of GAP training / CIRP Task of the NISP-RP-12 (Nuclear Industry Standard Process)
  • Individual workers may be assigned to specific task requiring specialized training. When specified, individuals must be trained in accordance with the following OSHA, DOT, and
  • EPA regulations and documentation provided per NW attachment, Section A:
  • 90/180 Day Storage Area Workers, Inspectors, and TSDF Storage per 40CFR265
  • Class B Commercial Driver’s License with DOT Hazardous Material Certification per 49CFR1172, 177, 390
  • Powered Industrial Truck/ Fork Lift Operator Initial and Re-qualification Training per 29CFR1910.178
  • Hazardous Waste Regulations per 40CFR265
  • DOT Hazardous Materials Loaders and Un-Loaders per 49CFR177
  • DOT Hazardous Materials Shippers per 49CFR172
  • Radioactive Materials Shippers per 40CFR172, 10CFR71, IE Bulletin 79-19
  • Satellite Accumulation Area per 40CFR262.34
++Minimum Skill Requirements and Accountabilities++
  • Meet all applicable requirements to maintain unescorted access
  • Safe use and proper operation of applicable equipment
  • Use and adhere to station policies and procedures.
  • Effectively communicate and interact with co-workers, Supervisors and Sponsors to ensure Safe and Quality job completion for all assignments
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written communications, technical requirements, procedures and directives associated with working at a nuclear plant
  • Ability to climb and work in adverse conditions such as high temperature areas, confined spaces, and heights.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to be respirator qualified
