Job summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Sr. Project Manager for our Texas water solutions practice. The role leads client relationships, project strategy and execution, ensuring financial success and timely delivery of large water/wastewater projects. Hybrid work options are available with relocation support for the right candidate.

You will manage cross-functional teams, develop market strategies, and uphold high standards of design and management in line with Black & Veatch’s ESOP-owned culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas preferred.
• 20+ years of relevant water engineering experience including water/wastewater planning, CIP optimization, detailed design and construction.

Responsibilities

• Lead marketing and business development efforts with client engagement in Texas.
• Oversee project performance, budgeting, invoicing and contract management for water projects.
• Direct engineering teams and external stakeholders to deliver reliable water infrastructure solutions.

The Sr. Project Manager position will be responsible for leadership in the local Texas office for the Black & Veatch water solutions business. In this capacity, you will have the opportunity to maintain client relationships with local municipalities, execute projects effectively to meet clients objectives and deliver financial success.

Our U.S. Texas and central region water solutions business has seen consistent growth driven by our clients’ needs to address challenges stemming from population growth, aging infrastructure, system reliability and resilience concerns, the need to improve operational efficiency, water quality regulations, circular water/one-water initiatives, and the use of “data” to help guide decision making. This position represents a strategic business opportunity for Black & Veatch to help the company grow its market share by providing world‑class water & wastewater infrastructure planning and design services for large projects and programs.

The Team

Black & Veatch’s Fuels & Natural Resources focuses on specific infrastructure needs of municipalities, state and local governments, and specialized physical and digital infrastructure solutions for government and federal agencies. This team partners with our customers such as the City of Savannah to align their people, processes, technologies, and data analytics in the face of industry transformation. We help our customers leverage our industry-leading solutions and expertise to modernize water infrastructure, optimize asset use, meet performance goals, reduce costs, and mitigate risk no matter where the water industry goes next. This team is ranked in the top 10 by ENR for Water Design Firms in Water Supply and Sewer Waste and other water-related rankings.

Key Responsibilities

Business development

• Leading team efforts for marketing
• Strategy development
• Prospect identification, proposal development, proposal preparation, client presentations, project budgeting and contracting for successful opportunities
• Accountable for new business objectives and for overall project performance

Project management

• External focus to interact with assigned clients, become involved in client activities and promote Black & Veatch through client and community activities
• Support development of the overall market business plan, market strategies, client engagement strategies and leverage other Black & Veatch technical and management resources to advance Black & Veatch’s market footprint

Project execution

• Oversight of engineering manager(s)
• Development of project performance goals
• Accountability for implementation
• Active involvement with internal project team and owner project representatives on project activities
• Perform or assist with the performance and commercial management of projects including budgeting, invoicing, and payments; lead project performance reviews for assigned project(s)

Staff management

• Team development, mentoring and coaching on performance improvement
• Recommendations for training and promotion of assigned professionals as well as identification and development of new candidates to expand the Black & Veatch team

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas
• 20+ years of relevant water engineering experience including but not limited to water and wastewater infrastructure planning, asset management, CIP optimization, detailed design, and construction
• Technical experience in water and wastewater treatment as well as linear infrastructure planning and design: planning & asset management; and other key elements of our client’s diverse water needs.
• Business development and program/project management experience
• Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Work Environment/Physical Demands
