Position Overview
The Sr. Project Manager is accountable for developing, maintaining, updating, distributing, and managing estimates; overseeing change orders and billing; supervising subcontractor performance; ensuring projects meet quality and regulatory specifications; and managing project start‑ups, cost controls, labor productivity, and financial performance.
Budget / Schedule / Cost Control
- Develop, maintain, update, distribute, and manage estimates.
- Decide how to handle client change orders, including pricing.
- Review construction strategy with estimators and Business Development during bidding and proposal.
- Assist in negotiating work with prospective clients and recommend contract type.
- Ensure the project schedule is developed and maintained.
- Use cost accounting/reporting systems to identify and correct cost overruns.
- Ensure client receivables are paid and discuss collections with the client if needed.
- Monitor construction progress relative to percent of contract billed.
- Review management reports, interact with the Project Manager, and provide coaching for positive financial performance.
- Identify and manage project risks, including safety, insurance, security, and compliance.
- Approve project expense reports and forward them to the Vice President.
Management Competencies
- Use all project controls software effectively.
- Coordinate support functions, including project start‑up with internal and external teams.
- Provide direction during major events (e.g., accidents, labor disputes).
- Assist in resolving jurisdictional issues and keep upper management informed.

- Provide ongoing performance feedback, coaching, and development for the Project Manager and team.
- Conduct reviews with direct reports and involve the Vice President.

- Create, interpret, and execute contracts.
- Manage change order process, billings, and meetings.
- Maintain positive relationships with subcontractors and enforce timely dispute resolution and payment.
- Establish constructive relationships with key subcontractors, positioning Alberici as their preferred contractor.
- Handle labor relations and jurisdiction matters.
- Implement company buy‑out procedures (bid packs).
Construction Means and Methods
- Stage, prepare, phase, and sequence site logistics within budget and schedule, assessing constructability.
- Ensure projects comply with Company Quality Management procedures.
End User Interaction
- Build rapport with architects, engineers, owners, and department managers.
- Establish relationships with prospective and current clients in assigned markets.
- Maintain positive working relationships with client representatives.
- Keep the Vice President informed of client relationship status and upcoming work.
- Understand client business needs and satisfy them, following through on commitments.
- Ensure client satisfaction and manage client interactions professionally.
- Communicate effectively with owner’s top management when required.
Performance
- Apply Built In Safety policies and practices.
- Meet or exceed performance targets.
- Develop safety incentive programs for projects.
- Take disciplinary action when safety measures are insufficient.
- Review costs and variances weekly or monthly with Project Managers.
- Verify billing processes and review change order logs.
- Review expense reports and labor productivity reports regularly.
- Address profit fade and develop recovery plans.
- Review project income schedules with financial directors quarterly.
Other Duties
- Fulfill MBE/DBE/WBE requirements.
- Monitor supplier performance.
- Participate in civic, community, and public relations efforts.
- Maintain schedule, quality, and design‑to‑budget for internal design work.
- Research and recommend actions for potential project claims.
- Review cost trends monthly with operations directors.
- Prepare Horizon Plans quarterly with division leaders.
- Travel to Company and subsidiary offices, client, subcontractor, and supplier meetings across North America as required.
- Maintain reliable attendance and adhere to company guidelines.
Management Responsibilities
Manage and direct Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, Project Engineers, and non‑supervisory administrative staff. Responsibilities include hiring, training, planning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and resolving complaints.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree related to the construction industry.
- 10 years of experience in project engineering, construction project management, or related fields.
- Exposure to projects exceeding $50 million.
- Willingness to travel up to 85 % of the time across North America.
