Job summary

Amazon Kuiper Manufacturing Enterprises LLC in Redmond, WA, is seeking a Sr. Production Quality Engineer to own quality outputs of critical satellite mechanism sub-assemblies and drive defect reduction across the production system.

You will define and validate assembly/test processes, lead MRB discussions, and partner with Inspection, Supplier Quality and Engineering within an AS9100 quality framework to sustain high reliability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 4+ years developing functional specifications, design verification plans and tests.
  • 4+ years leading containment activities and APQP activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead as Product QE over satellite mechanism assemblies, including process definition and validation for assembly and test methods, part and process qualification, inspection plans, in-process inspection capabilities, and process monitoring.
  • Lead MRB discussions to determine product dispositions for nonconforming material.
  • Investigate defect reduction activities for mechanisms subassemblies and drive recurrence prevention.
  • Collaborate with Inspection, Supplier Quality, and Engineering to develop inspection, monitoring, and verification methods for the Leo Production System.
  • Be a Quality SME for mechanisms sub-assemblies, owning defect reduction, reporting and overall quality performance.
  • Lead and develop new process mechanisms for cross-functional production system teams.

The Leo Manufacturing Quality team is driven to deliver high-quality product lines while maintaining a fast production rate. This position will join the team at an exciting moment, with an opportunity to directly own the quality outputs of some of our critical sub-systems.

As a Sr. Production Quality engineer, you will have the opportunity to own product performance for some of the most critical sub-assemblies of the satellite, delivering creative solutions to reduce defects, and planning to prevent defects using technical quality skills.

Key job responsibilities
  • Lead as Product QE over satellite mechanism assemblies, including process definition and validation for assembly and test methods, part and process qualification, inspection plans, in-process inspection capabilities, and process monitoring.
  • Lead MRB discussions determine product dispositions for nonconforming material.
  • Dive deep into defect reduction activities for the mechanisms subassemblies, and drive innovative solutions to prevent recurrence of defects.
  • Work directly with Inspection, Supplier Quality, and Engineering teams to develop and qualify inspection, monitoring, and verification methods for the Leo Production System all through the production system and ensure a no defect mentality
  • Be a Quality SME for the mechanisms sub-assemblies, owning defect reduction, reporting, and overall quality performance of the mechanism subassemblies, including electromechanical hardware, high cleanliness/FOD sensitivity, tight tolerance & high precision machined parts, high criticality attributes
  • Lead and develop new and novel process mechanisms for cross functional production system teams.
Shift Schedule

Split Shift 4x10

(Day, Night Split)

SUN-WED - Day ( 10 AM to 8 PM)

WED- SAT -DAY ( 10 AM to 8 PM)

A day in the life
  • Perform daily defect resolution as the Quality member.
  • Investigates Production System issues to reduce defect rates and drive root cause corrective actions.
  • Implements the Amazon Leo Quality System through process development and launch mechanisms.
  • Partners with cross-functional groups to develop and qualify internal production processes, including Quality Assurance processes.
  • Conduct rigorous Continuous Improvement activities to prevent recurrence of non-conformances during assembly.
  • Perform audit activities to ensure compliance to QMS requirements.
  • Develop and modify process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, control plans, MSAs, and other APQP artifacts to support continued high quality production.
  • Working within an AS9100 certified quality system.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 4+ years of experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
  • 4+ years of experience in leading containment activities
  • 4+ years of experience in leading APQP (PFMEA, CP, PFD, SPC, MSA)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
  • Experience with the project management of technical projects
  • 4+ years of experience in performing RCA for functional test failure for PCBA or mechanical failures
  • 4+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience
  • 4+ years experience in semi-automated and fully automated process improvement to add error proofing to system such as Kyence, Cognex or other AI/ML Vision system

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
