Job summary

Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is seeking a Senior Product Software Engineer to join our video player team. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, collaborative, and technical, with strong cross-team coordination to achieve excellence and influence Disney's streaming experiences for millions of global viewers.

You will collaborate across platforms to ensure a consistent architecture and best-in-class streaming, driving media playback innovation and supporting Disney Media

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years experience in software engineering.
  • 1 year experience working directly with HTML5 video playback (MSE/EME, HLS, MPEG-DASH, CMAF).
  • Bachelor’s degree or better in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent job experience.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement solutions for new and existing features that integrate with various Disney media services and backend platforms.
  • Design and implement solutions for Disney Media Player, internal tooling, and related dependent projects to support product and team needs.
  • Collaborate on the design of Disney Media Player, including requirements gathering, debugging, and integration support for internal and external partners.
  • Conduct R&D to support Disney Media Player experiences, integration, and testing.
  • Participate in planning near and long-term work as well as team agile ceremonies and meetings.

Job Summary

We’re seeking a Senior Product Software Engineer who will be an outstanding addition to our video player team. The right person for this role is highly motivated, collaborative, and technical, with the ability to coordinate across teams and empower both themselves and others in striving for and achieving excellence. Your focus will be on collaborating with media playback teams on other platforms to ensure a consistent software architecture which delivers a best‑in‑class streaming experience for our viewers while providing a foundation for media playback innovation at Disney.

  • Collaborate on the design of Disney Media Player, including requirements gathering, debugging, and integration support for internal and external partners.
  • Conduct R&D to support Disney Media Player experiences, integration, and testing.
  • Participate in planning near and long‑term work as well as team agile ceremonies and meetings.
Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years experience in software engineering.
  • 1 year experience working directly with HTML5 video playback (one or more of these technologies: MSE/EME, HLS, MPEG-DASH, Transport Stream, CMAF).
  • Bachelor’s degree or better in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent job experience.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven track record at a senior software engineering level.
  • Experience working with server‑side JavaScript/Typescript in Node.js or Deno.
  • Experience and expertise deploying web applications in any environment.
  • 2 years or more experience working directly with HTML5 video playback.

The hiring range for this position in Seattle, WA & New York, NY is $148,700 - $199,400. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job‑related knowledge, skills and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long‑term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
