Amazon Data Services, Inc. is hiring a Sr. Product Design Engineer with diesel generator experience for our Electrical Products and Services team.

You will design and qualify critical power distribution equipment for AWS data centers, including diesel generators and aftertreatment systems, while ensuring international compliance and supply chain resilience. You will work with global suppliers, field teams, and internal partners to deliver reliable, cost-effective solutions that meet uptime

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Amazon Web Services is hiring a Sr. Product Design Engineer with diesel generator experience for our Electrical Products and Services team. The Electrical Products and Services Team is a AWS's Data Center Engineering global engineering team, responsible for the design and continuous innovation for products used within our rapidly expanding data center footprint.

As a product engineer at Amazon, you will be working with other internal groups as well as external groups including engineering service providers, manufacturers, vendors, inspectors, third party testing labs and contractors.

Amazon has a global presence. Travel will be necessary but shouldn’t be more than 30%. International support will be part of the job, and some international travel may be necessary. Your contribution could consist of leading international projects and could require developing engineering information packages. An understanding of international electrical product design requirements is helpful but not necessary.

Key job responsibilities

• Work with internal partner teams to solicit customer input and define design requirements for product design.
• Lead new product design, development and qualification of critical electrical power distribution equipment for AWS data centers with primary focus on backup power generation, specifically diesel generators, enclosures, and aftertreatment systems, as well as connecting dependencies with other electrical equipment.
• Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate equipment and components, ensuring tier 2-3 supply chain resiliency.
• Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC and federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries through appropriate levels of testing.
• Validate design through prototype, pre-production and first-of-kind builds, conducting DFx and value engineering analysis through each step and updating design and documentation.
• Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical products.
• Ability to provide support for manufacturing activities for the new products on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
• Be a leader within the product development team as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.

Basic Qualifications

• 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
• Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
• Experience developing solutions and executing plans on complex projects
• Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities

Preferred Qualifications

• 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience
• Professional Engineering or Architectural License
• Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
• Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
• Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
• Experience in Backup Generator with exhaust aftertreatment, Switchgear, or HVAC system product design, product packaging, system integration, and layout design
• Experience in collaborating across Procurement and Supply Chain, Quality, Operations, Commissioning, and suppliers on Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), and Design for Serviceability (DFS), and/or value engineering

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
