Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Senior Process Safety Engineer in Bastrop, TX to lead hazard analyses and implement safety programs for complex chemical systems. The role requires relocation to the Bastrop area, with no remote option.

You will evaluate hazards, oversee FAT/SAT and risk assessments, and validate safety instruments during PSSRs to ensure PSM compliance. The role emphasizes strong collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams and deep knowledge of codes such as ASME, NFPA, and ANSI.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in process safety or chemical engineering.
• 5+ years’ experience with design and commissioning chemical systems.
• Master’s degree in chemical engineering (preferred).
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, equipment datasheets, instrumentation diagrams, etc.
• Experience with reviewing safety control circuits and calculating safety performance levels.
• Experience with design and commissioning of process systems for hydrofluoric acid, strong acids and bases, pyrophoric and flammable gases.
• Advanced understanding of industry codes, standards, and practices such as ASME, NFPA, ANSI, IBC/IFC, RAGAGEP, etc.
• Knowledge of quality tools such as lean manufacturing principles, statistical process control, root cause analysis and corrective action, PFMEA, control plans, and various problem-solving approaches.
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
• Enthusiasm for the missions of enabling global internet connectivity and multi-planetary life.

SENIOR PROCESS SAFETY ENGINEER

Responsibilities

• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) of advanced chemical systems and recommend controls to manage risks as low as reasonably practicable
• Evaluate equipment overpressure/overtemperature scenarios and reaction hazards
• Perform/oversee Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), as well as risk assessments and hazard analyses on complex process equipment
• Implement and field validate safety-critical instruments and interlocks during Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs)
• Implement a Process Safety Management (PSM) program and ensure compliance with all pillars of PSM

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in process safety or chemical engineering
• 5+ years’ experience with design and commissioning chemical systems

Preferred Skills And Experience

• Master’s degree in chemical engineering
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, equipment datasheets, instrumentation diagrams, etc.

Additional Requirements

• This is not a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the Bastrop, TX area
• Position occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed
