Job summary

ScottsMiracle-Gro is seeking a Senior Process Engineer for the Growing Media Maintenance & Engineering team. This remote role, near an existing plant, requires up to 50% travel.

You will provide technical support to manufacturing facilities, drive reliability improvements, and help design and rollout maintenance strategies across the Growing Media network. The role calls for a BS in Engineering and 5–7 years of manufacturing experience with a proven background in process improvement, CMMS

Responsibilities

• Serve as a technical liaison across operations, maintenance, safety, quality, procurement, and engineering.
• Develop technical mastery of manufacturing equipment (process and packaging).
• Implement CMMS in regions, including asset hierarchy, work orders, preventive maintenance optimization.
• Create and maintain equipment documentation (CIL standards, process centerlines, maintenance standards, troubleshooting guides).
• Develop and deliver technical training via learning management system (LMS).
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve OEE and reduce costs.
• Diagnose problems using RCA tools (Fishbone, 5-Why, FMEA) and implement permanent solutions.
• Identify common loss themes and document best practices across facilities.
• Partner with Plant Managers to execute manufacturing improvement plans.
• Lead the Professional Maintenance (PM) pillar and equipment reliability projects.
• Drive manufacturing variation out by data analysis and implementing solutions.
• Develop rapid changeover standards through SMED principles.
• Contribute to asset maintenance and cost-reduction CAPEX requests.
• Lead bottleneck identification and solution implementation across lines.
• Develop production line standards and routed standards.
• Coach facility maintenance staff on CMMS sustainment.

Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Process Engineer to join our Growing Media (GM) Maintenance & Engineering team at one of our plant locations.

This position will be remote (near an existing location) with an expectation of 50% travel.

The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for providing technical and engineering support for manufacturing facilities within the Growing Media network, leading focused, proactive problem-solving efforts to eliminate downtime, optimize equipment reliability, and support the GM Maintenance Organization design and rollout.

In this role you will:

• Serve as a technical liaison for all levels of the company including operations, maintenance, safety, quality, procurement, and corporate engineering
• Develop technical mastery within self and others for key manufacturing equipment (process and packaging)
• Execute the implementation of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) in respective regions including asset hierarchy, work order management, preventive maintenance optimization, and spare parts standardization
• Create, standardize, and maintain equipment documentation including: Clean, Inspect, Lube (CIL) Standards, Process Centerlines, Maintenance Standards, troubleshooting guides, and technical training material
• Develops/delivers technical training through a learning management system for various levels of the organization
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to solve problems, optimize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and reduce costs
• Diagnose technical problems, identify short and long-term solutions using Root Cause Analysis tools (Fishbone, 5-Why, FMEA, and other tools) and facilitate the implementation of permanent solutions
• Identify common loss themes across facilities; provide and support implementing solutions and document the solutions through best practices and major issue sharing
• Partner with Plant Managers to execute manufacturing improvement plans
• Lead and support the Professional Maintenance (PM) pillar and equipment reliability project efforts across the Growing Media network
• Champion efforts to drive out manufacturing variation by analyzing data, drawing conclusions, and leading implementation of appropriate solutions
• Develop and maintain rapid changeover standards through Single Minute Exchange of Die (SMED) principles
• Participate in development and prioritization of asset maintenance and cost reduction capital requests
• Lead the identification of bottlenecks at manufacturing facilities and facilitate implementation of solutions to optimize each production line
• Participate in the development of production line standards and establish accurate routed standards at each facility
• Coach and mentor facility maintenance personnel with a strong focus on CMMS sustainment

What you'll need to be successful:

• B.S. in Engineering (Packaging, Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical), or equivalent preferred
• Minimum 5-7 years operating in a manufacturing environment with experience of driving reliability improvements
• Strong leadership skills required. Interacts well with diverse groups within the operation and maintains strong working relationships with internal associates in a collaborative, fast-paced, goal-driven environment.
• Proven track record for leading capital projects
• Recognized technical abilities and practical experience with strong capabilities in the following areas: Theory/functionality of manufacturing systems and unit operations
• Continuous improvement techniques (Lean, TPM, Root Cause Analysis, Quick Changeover/SMED, Process Centerlines)
• Statistics and analytical methods, Process measurement and control
• Change management
• Reactive, Preventative, and Predictive Maintenance
• Ability to use current PC-based software (e.g., Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Access, Project, etc.)

The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $103,700.00 - $122,000.00 per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location. In addition to the determined base salary, this role is also incentive eligible under our corporate bonus programs. For remote roles where the final candidate resides in Alaska, California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, Oregon or Washington, state required pay thresholds will be factored into base salary.
