Job summary

OxyChem seeks an experienced DCS Engineer with 5–20 years of DCS design, programming and troubleshooting to support the Deer Park site. You will provide technical guidance on DCS/SIS, PLCs, and historians, and coordinate projects ensuring safe, reliable operations.

Responsibilities include managing control system projects, developing documentation for hazard analyses, and supporting ongoing DCS operations with a focus on safety and cost-effective technology.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level engineering degree in a related field with 5–20 years of DCS design, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance experience.
• Experience with Honeywell Experion/TDC3000 DCS, Triconex PLC, and Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PLC preferred.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Excellent troubleshooting, written and verbal communication skills; ability to work in a team.
• Ability to read, write and speak English; strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to respond to off-hour emergencies; SAP knowledge is a plus.

• Develop programming documentation for process hazard analyses and related reviews.
• Support DCS operations and performance, recommend improvements.
• Oversee field construction, installation verification, loop checks, and final commissioning of DCS/PLC equipment.

Essential Job Duties

• Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products, as our highest priority.
• Provide technical guidance on the operation and optimization of the Deer Park VCM site’s Distributed Control System (DCS).
• Provide expertise by providing an exceptional level of technical skills with DCS controls/instrumentation.
• Prepare scopes, estimates and schedules of proposed control system projects.
• Coordinate control and instrument tasks for the successful completion of projects.
• Assist with configuration, installation, and maintenance of electronic microprocessor-based instrument control systems including, but not limited to, DCS/SIS control systems, PLC’s, serial interfaces, and historians.
• Manage standalone instrumentation and control projects.
• Develop programming documentation for reference in process hazards reviews, layers of protection analysis, fault tree, and other hazard analysis methods.
• Provide recommendations on up-to-date process control systems and cost-effective technologies.
• Assist operating facility’s DCS operations and performance by providing technical support and troubleshooting and recommend the development of programs for improvement.
• Demonstrate a working knowledge in; specifying field instrumentation, specifying analyzer systems, developing schematics including motor controls, interfacing third party packages to the DCS/SIS systems.
• Oversee the field construction, verification of proper installation, performance of loop checks and the oversight of final commissioning of DCS/PLC equipment and instrumentation associated with capital projects.
• Define spare parts and preventative maintenance requirements for DCS and related components.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field with 5– 20 years of DCS design, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance experience.
• Additional desired qualifications: Honeywell Experion/TDC3000 DCS experience, Triconex PLC experience, Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLC experience.
• High proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
• Strong troubleshooting and problems solving abilities
• Proficient written and verbal skills.
• Ability to read, write and speak in English.
• Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
• Proficient in Microsoft applications such as Word, Outlook and excel
• Must be able to respond to off hour emergencies.
• Additional Desired Qualifications: Good working knowledge of SAP.
