Job summary

OxyChem seeks an experienced DCS engineer to design, implement, and maintain distributed control systems at the Deer Park site. You will guide control projects, coordinate instrument tasks, and support DCS/SIS, PLCs, and historians while ensuring health, safety, and environmental standards.

The role requires a 5–20 year background in DCS design and maintenance, with strong troubleshooting and Microsoft Office skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5–20 years of DCS design, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance experience.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal English.
  • Must respond to off-hour emergencies.
  • Good working knowledge of SAP.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain protection of the environment and health and safety of employees, customers, and communities.
  • Provide technical guidance on operation and optimization of the Deer Park VCM site’s Distributed Control System (DCS).
  • Provide expertise with DCS controls/instrumentation.
  • Prepare scopes, estimates and schedules of proposed control system projects.
  • Coordinate control and instrument tasks for project completion.
  • Assist with configuration, installation, and maintenance of DCS/SIS control systems, PLCs, interfaces, and historians.
  • Manage standalone instrumentation and control projects.
  • Develop programming documentation for hazard analyses including LOPA and fault tree.
  • Provide recommendations on up-to-date process control systems and cost-effective technologies.
  • Assist DCS operations and troubleshooting; develop programs for improvement.
  • Oversee field construction, installation verification, loop checks, and commissioning of DCS/PLC equipment.
  • Define spare parts and preventative maintenance requirements for DCS components.

Essential Job Duties:
  • Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products, as our highest priority.
  • Provide technical guidance on the operation and optimization of the Deer Park VCM site’s Distributed Control System (DCS).
  • Provide expertise by providing an exceptional level of technical skills with DCS controls/instrumentation.
  • Prepare scopes, estimates and schedules of proposed control system projects. Coordinate control and instrument tasks for the successful completion of projects.
  • Assist with configuration, installation, and maintenance of electronic microprocessor-based instrument control systems including, but not limited to, DCS/SIS control systems, PLC’s, serial interfaces, and historians.
  • Manage standalone instrumentation and control projects.
  • Develop programming documentation for reference in process hazards reviews, layers of protection analysis, fault tree, and other hazard analysis methods.
  • Provide recommendations on up-to-date process control systems and cost-effective technologies.
  • Assist operating facility’s DCS operations and performance by providing technical support and troubleshooting and recommend the development of programs for improvement.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge in; specifying field instrumentation, specifying analyzer systems, developing schematics including motor controls, interfacing third party packages to the DCS/SIS systems.
  • Oversee the field construction, verification of proper installation, performance of loop checks and the oversight of final commissioning of DCS/PLC equipment and instrumentation associated with capital projects.
  • Define spare parts and preventative maintenance requirements for DCS and related components.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field with 5– 20 years of DCS design, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance experience.
  • Additional desired qualifications: Honeywell Experion/TDC3000 DCS experience, Triconex PLC experience, Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLC experience.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problems solving abilities
  • Proficient written and verbal skills. Ability to read, write and speak in English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications such as Word, Outlook and excel
  • Must be able to respond to off hour emergencies.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
  • Good working knowledge of SAP.
