Job summary

Vectaur Inc. is seeking a Sr. Process Automation and Controls Engineer in Houston, TX. The role involves leading multi-discipline automation projects, interfacing with partners, and driving engineering through design, FAT/SAT, and handover to operations.

You will program PLC and DCS platforms, develop control narratives and P&ID interfaces, and support budgets and proposals. Travel to field sites is required as project phases demand.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Instrumentation, Computer Systems, Chemical).
  • 10-12+ years’ experience leading control systems projects and managing a team.
  • Programming and configuring PLC and DCS platforms; preference for Rockwell, Honeywell and/or Triconex.
  • Experience in full lifecycle automation development from planning to operations.
  • Experience in sectors such as Mining, LNG, petrochemical, oil and gas, or nuclear industries.
  • Front end engineering experience developing project scope, control system philosophy, and P&ID development.

Responsibilities

  • Build knowledge base to drive productivity and growth; work across multicultural teams.
  • Travel up to 25-50% depending on project phase.

Overall Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

Work seamlessly with various offices to share work andintegrate staff on projects for a blended executionteam.

Coordinating interfaces with engineering partners,construction contractors, equipment manufacturers,system integrators and project management as well asother technical disciplines including process, civil,structural, piping, mechanical, and electrical.

Desire to expand role and be adaptable to client'sneeds.

Assist, and later, lead the preparation of proposals,execution plans and budgets.

Working on all engineering phases within a project fromconcept through detailed design and engineering. Workingin the field providing construction support, FAT andSAT, installation qualifications andcommissioning/validation/ handover to operations.

Programming and configuring PLC and DCS platforms whileleading a team for project implementation.

Produce various deliverables such as, but not limitedto - control narratives, cause and effect drawings,Boolean logic diagrams, DCS / SIS / PLC functionalspecifications and procurement, system cabinet drawings,wiring diagrams, system card layout and loading. Also,basic I&C deliverables such as instrumentdatasheets, instrument index, IO lists, wiring diagrams,system architecture.

Engineering and commissioning complex automationprojects including working in the field with specificsupport for construction management. In addition towriting and utilizing FAT and SAT protocols,installation qualification, commissioning and handover.

Take ownership for project success: delivery of targetquality, cost management and customer satisfaction.

Proactively builds a knowledge base of tools andmethodologies to drive productivity and growth.

Ability to work collaboratively in a multiculturalenvironment.

Travel is required for various field programs up to 25to 50% depending on project phase and assignment.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline(Electrical, Instrumentation Computer Systems,Chemical).

10-12+ years’ experience with expertise in leadingcontrol systems projects in the industry and managing ateam.

Programming and configuring PLC and DCS platforms;preference for Rockwell, Honeywell and/or Triconex.Hands on experience and leading teams involved in systemintegration work including DCS and PLC softwaremigrations.

Strong self-starter and entrepreneurial mindset.Excellent communication skills including ability tocommunicate complex ideas effectively, producing concisereports and presentations appropriate for all levels.

EPC Experience is an asset.

Experience in the full lifecycle of automationdevelopment, from planning, development, testing,commissioning and operations.

Experience in the following sectors a plus: Mining,LNG, petrochemical, oil and gas, or nuclear industries.

Specific front end engineering experience developingproject scope, control system philosophy, systemsarchitecture, process safety studies, CHAZOP/HAZOP/LOPA,SIL determination, P&ID development and building TICestimates a must.

Experience in developing Total Installed Cost (TIC)estimates for capital projects, including performingmaterial takeoffs and utilizing estimating softwaretools (Cleopatra preferred). Must have a strongbackground in compiling material quantities for processautomation-intensive projects to produce accurate TICestimates.
