The Systems Engineering function is at the forefront of program strategy, leading the creation, evolution, and maintenance of system architectures throughout the program lifecycle. We are seeking a visionary Sr Principal Systems Architect Engineer with demonstrated experience leading systems engineering efforts across the program lifecycle. This role emphasizes matrixed leadership, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and model-based systems engineering to deliver innovative, robust armament programs. The successful candidate will lead comprehensive systems engineering activities—including requirements development, system performance analysis, integration, verification, and validation—while fostering a culture of technical excellence, adaptability, and innovation. This role is crucial to ensuring that armament systems are designed to meet technical specifications and function effectively in operational environments.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Aerospace, Computer, Mechanical, or related discipline) 8+ years of related experience; or a Master’s degree in a related discipline and 6+ years of related experience; or a PhD in a related discipline and 4+ years of related experience. Demonstrated cross-domain leadership experience in engineering‑focused non‑profits or organizations. Strong background in Agile development methodologies. Experience leveraging systems engineering tools with embedded AI. Experience applying systems design principles using AI to develop and integrate advanced solutions. Experience designing, integrating, and verifying complex systems to align with design specifications and meet operational/mission requirements. Experience with model‑based systems engineering (MBSE). Expertise in systems engineering development using Product Line Engineering (PLE) principles and best practices. Experience with Systems Modeling Language (SysML). Experience with the Unified Architecture Framework (UAF). Must be a U.S. Citizen Ability to obtain a government secret clearance (not required to start).
Leadership experience in systems‑of‑systems development and integration, effectively managing interfaces, interoperability, and dependencies across the program lifecycle. Proven capability to guide systems‑of‑systems architecture development and lifecycle management to achieve end‑to‑end mission success. Experience supporting trade studies and generating requirements to address affordability, performance, safety, reliability, maintainability, sustainability, and systems security objectives. Strong background in data analytics methodologies and tools to improve system insights and drive data‑informed decision‑making throughout program development. Experience with Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) / Weapon Open Systems Architecture (WOSA). Experience in the aerospace and defense or healthcare industries. Certified Systems Engineering Professional (e.g., INCOSE CSEP/ESEP). Certification in a systems engineering modeling language (e.g., SysML, UAF).
$135,800.00 - $203,600.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
