Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Palmdale, CA, is seeking a Sr. System Safety Engineer to support the B-2 program. You will develop and deliver system safety artifacts and guide safety requirements across IPTs.

Responsibilities include hazard identification, SRR/PDR/CDR packages, and mentoring engineers while maintaining MIL-_STD-882 and ARP4754A compliance. A DoD clearance is required; travel up to 10% is possible.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field with 9+ years of engineering experience.
  • Experience with MIL-STD-882 or ARP4754 safety programs.
  • Ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance and SAP clearance.
  • Experience interfacing with military customers or safety counterparts.
  • Prior system safety analysis experience (PHA, FHA, SHA, FTA).

Responsibilities

  • Identify, classify, and manage hazards in a closed-loop system.
  • Coordinate cross-IPT for hazard and safety requirement adjudication.
  • Communicate safety risk to leadership levels.
  • Develop and present SRR, PDR, and CDR safety packages.
  • Flow down derived safety requirements to IPTs.
  • Identify, classify, and document CSIs and Subsystem Hazards.
  • Mentor safety engineers of varying experience.

Our employees are not only part of history, they’re making history.Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems is seeking a Sr. System Safety Engineer to support the B-2 program in either Palmdale, CA, Melbourne, FL, Rancho Bernardo, CA or Oklahoma City, OK.The successful candidate will be assigned to develop and deliver System Safety products as required using MIL-STD-882 as guidance.Essential Functions:Identification, classification, adjudication, and management of hazards in a closed-loop tracking systemCross-IPT coordination to support hazard and safety requirement adjudicationCommunication of safety risk to the appropriate levelsBeing cognizant of the system design and functionsPreparing and presenting SRR, PDR, and CDR packages to document hazards and associated safety requirementsFlow down of derived safety requirements to the appropriate IPTsCDRL deliveryAcquiring design cognizance of the aircraftIdentification, classification, and documentation of Subsystem Hazards and Critical Safety Items (CSIs)Mentoring various experience levels of safety engineersBasic Qualifications:• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and at least 9 years of Engineering experience OR at least 7 years with Master’s Degree OR at least 4 years with PhD• Understanding of and experience with a MIL-STD-882 or ARP4754 safety program• Experience with interfacing to a military customer or safety counterpart• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret clearance or higher within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needsPreferred Qualifications:• Experience in Software Engineering or Software Safety• An active/current DOD Secret or Top Secret clearance• An active/current SAP clearance (any SAP)• Participation in System Safety Working Groups (SSWGs) or similar interface meetings (eg. SSGs, WSESRB, SSSTRP, etc.)• Knowledge and experience with SAE ARP4761, MIL-STD-882E, Joint Software System Safety Handbook (JSSSEH), DO-178B/C, MIL-HDBK-516C, DO-254, SAE ARP4754A, and/or AOP-52.• Experience conducting a Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Assessment (PHA), Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), System Hazard Analysis (SHA),• Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Probability of Loss of Aircraft (rollup FTA) analysis, Operating & Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA), or the ARP4754/4761 equivalents.Northrop Grumman is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce.
