Job summary

Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration in Huntsville, AL seeks a Sr Principal Software Engineer to support the C2BMC program. The role focuses on building high-performance, mission-critical software for defense systems and requires DoD clearance and strong leadership in a multi-team environment.

The successful candidate will design, develop, test, and maintain OO applications in Python and other languages, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 8 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 6 years of relevant work experience; or 12 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
• Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
• Proficiency in Python and at least one additional object-oriented programming language (e.g., Java, C#, or C++)
• Experience with Agile software development methodologies
• Experience in software integration and formal testing
• Strong background supporting software engineering on DoD programs
• Experience in developing command and control (C2) system applications
• Strong understanding of software development best practices and the ability to apply them in a multi-team environment
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a proven track record of root-cause analysis and issue resolution
• Proven ability to mentor and motivate junior engineers, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes continuous learning and drives the team toward shared success
• Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment
• Experience presenting complex concepts to non-software-engineering audiences, including senior program leadership, government representatives, and military leaders

• Conducts detailed analysis, design, coding, unit and integration testing, performance benchmarking, operational integration, and provides ongoing user support for complex software products

Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Sr Principal Software Engineer – BM/SRM (26-325) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. Based in Huntsville, AL, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.

This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.

Position Overview

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, collectively monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations globally and regionally to improve performance. C2BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.

The Regional Applications (RA) Battle Management/Sensor Resource Management (BM/SRM) team is seeking a senior software engineer to join the Huntsville development effort.

  Primary Level Salary Range: $135,800.00 - $203,600.00. The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
