Northrop Grumman is seeking a Sr. Principal Microelectronics Engineer to support Surface Mount Technology Manual Assembly for Space at our SALT facility in Elkridge, Maryland. The Sr.

Principal will serve as the definitive technical authority for manufacturing engineering across the plant. The role requires collaboration across disciplines, driving process improvements, and ensuring compliance with J-STD-001, AS9100, and IPC standards while guiding tooling development.

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Sr. Principal Microelectronics Engineer to support Surface Mount Technology Manual Assembly for Space at our brand-new Space and Autoline Technology (SALT) facility in Elkridge Maryland. The Sr. Principal Microelectronics Engineer will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Manufacturing organization. The selected candidate will work in a fast-paced environment where they will interact with multiple disciplines.

The Sr. Principal Microelectronics Engineer will act as the definitive technical authority for all aspects of manufacturing engineering on all program elements across the manufacturing plant (hardware/support/test).

Responsibilities

• Design and Engineering Support: Ensure the program is adhering to sound engineering processes in the development, production, test and sustainment of products for our customers and is compliant with company policies, procedures, and quality standards.
• Maintain cognizance over technical activities within program IPTs and ensure horizontal integration of the best manufacturing engineering practices across the product line.
• Continually coordinate with cross-functional organizations to ensure successful program execution.
• Monitor production processes and initiates data-driven continuous improvement.
• Recommending product design improvements required to produce advanced microelectronics products.
• Documenting state-of-the-art process capabilities and guidelines for hardware manufacturing.
• Participating in design producibility reviews for new products.
• Factory Support: Using complex drawings and parts lists to develop assembly work instructions.
• Applying knowledge of electronics assembly to assist the build team.
• Ensuring the build team meets the requirements of J-STD-001, AS9100, internal requirements, and other relevant IPC/MIL-STDs.
• Advising on developing and implementing assembly tooling and fixtures.
• Solving technical manufacturing problems (related to materials, designs, equipment and tooling, training and instructions) to support production.
• Developing rework and repair processes and instructions.
• Monitoring process yields, cost and schedule, recommending and implementing quality improvements to drive improved metrics.
• Assisting with the training of new personnel and participation in the design of operation training materials.
• Creating and documenting designs for product specific tooling.
• Process Development: Developing and revising process documentation for complex circuit card assemblies.
• Identifying gaps in process capabilities, potential process improvements, capacities, and new technologies for manufacturing.
• Providing ROI justification for process improvements.
• Specifying, identifying and procuring new manufacturing equipment for production.
• Creating and managing project plans (tasks, resources and schedules) for process development activities and new equipment implementation.
• Collaborating with the manufacturing team in using lean and continuous improvement tools (PDCA, DOE, SPC, TPM, TQM, etc.).

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or a related STEM field and at least (8) years of relevant work experience in Manufacturing/Process Engineering, Production, or related area, or a master’s degree in engineering or a related STEM field and at least (6) years of relevant work experience in Manufacturing/Process Engineering, Production, or related area.
• Fluency in MS Office software applications.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment.
• US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with microelectronics manufacturing specifically related to complex circuit card manufacturing and/or integration of electronic assemblies into next higher-level assemblies.
• Experience with Design of Experiment (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC), 6 sigma concepts for process development and control.
• Experience using J-STD and MIL-STD requirements, including J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, and other IPC standards in manufacturing.
• Certifications are a plus (CIT).
• Experience managing projects and/or leading people with strong organizational skills.
• Experience working on engineering full life-cycle projects from inception through launch.
• Experience working through root cause and corrective action activities.
• Six Sigma certifications a plus.
• Experience working with or supporting union represented personnel.
• Experience with SAP MRP software.

Salary

Primary Level Salary Range: $135,800.00 - $203,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.

Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.

Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.

In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
