Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer (Level 4) for our Promontory, Utah facility. This on-site role focuses on designing and managing capital upgrades for facilities mechanical systems, including piping, heat transfer, and equipment such as pumps and boilers.

The ideal candidate has a STEM degree with 8+ years in facilities engineering, AutoCAD proficiency, and the ability to obtain US government clearance. Relocation assistance is not provided.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering design to support the Facilities Mechanical Engineering Department.

• Design mechanical piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) for plant systems.
• Prepare design calculations and specifications for major plant equipment.

• Develop schedules, work assignments and staffing to ensure project completion.

Northrop Grumman Space Sector is currently recruiting for a Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer (Level 4) position (also known as a Facilities Mechanical Engineer) located in Promontory, Utah.

This position is fully on-site. Relocation assistance is not available.

Job Description:

• Provide engineering design as needed to support the Facilities Mechanical Engineering Department.

• Manage projects and coordinate all procurements and installation to meet the program cost and schedule requirements for capital upgrades.

• Design mechanical piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) for chemical plant systems including boiler feed and condensate, water treatment, hydraulics, heat transfer systems, conveying systems, and air and gas systems.

• Prepare design calculations and specifications for major plant related equipment including, but not limited to heat exchangers, industrial chillers, cooling towers, boilers, condensers, pumps, piping, etc.

• Prepare mechanical engineering designs, including layout, design sketches, and conceptual design.

• Check design deliverables in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.

• Develop schedules, work assignments and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion.

• Coordinate with other engineers and craftsman assigned to the project or a task, and reviews work progress and results

• Providing detailed cost estimates for project design and implementation

• Preparing specifications for the procurement of pumps, heat exchangers, valves, compressors, tanks, cranes, and other miscellaneous of plant equipment.

• Review engineering drawings and designs for manufacturability and functionality.

• Troubleshoot industrial mechanical equipment. Resolve equipment problems in the field through technical assistance with Maintenance Craftsmen.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 8 years of Facilities Engineering related experience

• Ability to work in the field, climb ladders, work outside and in congested areas

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
