Job summary

Northrop Grumman is hiring a Sr Principal Mechanical Engineer in Roy, UT, to support the Sentinel GBSD program. You will create deployable mechanical mechanisms, develop CAD models, and oversee PDP development with multiple internal teams.

The role requires a STEM degree with 6–8+ years of experience and an active DoD secret clearance. Travel up to 10% may be required and on-site work is expected in Roy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in STEM with 8+ years of experience or Masters with 6+ years.
  • Active U.S. DoD Secret clearance at application time.
  • Ability to obtain SAP access within a reasonable period.
  • Experience with design/fabrication techniques for structural details and assemblies.

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement deployable mechanical mechanisms verified by tests and analyses.
  • Develop CAD models visualizing design solutions.
  • Coordinate PDP development with engineering boards and approvals.
  • Deliver PDPs on time to meet program objectives.
  • Integrate PDPs with element teams to avoid design clashes.
  • Identify and resolve design gaps cost-effectively.

Northrop Grumman's Defense Systems sector is seeking a Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer on the Command and Launch Infrastructure Integration team. This position is in our Strategic Deterrent Systems Division to execute the Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase of the Sentinel Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program. This position will be located on campus in Roy, UT and may require on-site support at product manufacturing and integration sites.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Create and implement deployable mechanical mechanisms that are verified through test/analysis
  • Develop CAD models visualizing various design solutions
  • Implement program processes and engineering board approval processes for developed PDPs
  • Deliver required PDPs on time to meet program objectives
  • Integrate Infrastructure Integration PDPs with the various element teams to proactively eliminate disconnects and design clashes
  • Identify gaps within a design and/or requirements and provide a resolution that is cost effective, innovative, and has minimal impact to others
  • Ensure the developed PDPs meet the design requirements from the various element/configured item specifications
  • Support digital transformation initiatives relating to PDP development and release
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) with 8 years of experience; or Masters degree with 6 years of experience.
  • An active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need
  • Experience with design/fabrication techniques for structural details, assemblies, and/or installations
  • 3+ year of experience with 3-D modeling tools
  • 1+ year of experience using product lifecycle management (PLM) tools
Preferred Qualifications:
  • ICBM Experience
  • Experience in creating a Product Definition Package (PDP) or PDP like products
  • Experience with the ASME Y14.X suite of engineering drawing standards
  • Ability to work closely with multiple functional organizations (Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Field Operations, etc.)
  • Experience with Teamcenter or Teamcenter CPLM Product Lifecycle Management Tool
  • Experience with Siemens NX

Primary Level Salary Range: $107,800.00 - $161,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.

  • Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
