Job summary

Qualifications

• Minimum of eight years of software experience with a BS; six years with an MS; four years with a PhD.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance.
• Experience with software functional requirements, ICDs, and verification planning.
• Proficiency with IBM DOORS or CAMEO for requirements management.
• Knowledge of CMMI, DO178C, and MISRA-C processes.
• Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing and lab demonstrations.

Responsibilities

• Define and generate software functional requirements, ICDs, and verification test plans to support high-integrity code development.
• Collaborate with subsystem leads to capture cross-domain interfaces and ensure system integration consistency.
• Develop verification matrices and automated test procedures to validate software functions against system-level requirements and safety standards.
• Lead requirements traceability using IBM DOORS or CAMEO.
• Participate in design reviews and configuration management per CMMI, DO-178C, and MISRA-C guidelines.
• Coordinate lab-based demonstrations and HWIL testing to verify software-hardware integration.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in requirements engineering and verification planning.

The position is based in Roy, Utah and focuses on the design, development, and demonstration of next‑generation hypersonic re‑entry vehicles and advanced payloads. The role will be responsible for requirement generation, interface management, verification planning, and mentoring junior engineers in a fast‑paced, mission‑driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Define and generate software functional requirements, interface control documents (ICDs), and verification test plans to support high‑integrity code development.
• Collaborate with subsystem leads (mechanical, electrical, and software) to capture cross‑domain interfaces and ensure system integration consistency.
• Develop verification matrices and automated test procedures to validate that software functions meet system‑level requirements and safety‑critical standards.
• Lead requirements traceability using tools such as IBMDOORS or CAMEO.
• Participate in design, peer review, and configuration management activities in accordance with Northrop Grumman engineering processes (CMMI, DO178C, MISRA‑C).
• Coordinate lab‑based demonstrations and hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HWIL) testing to verify software–hardware integration.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in requirements engineering, interface management, and verification planning.

Basic Qualifications

• Minimum of eight (8) years of experience with a Bachelor’s in Science; six (6) years with a Master’s; or four (4) years with a Ph.D.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Top Secret clearance.
• Demonstrated experience with software functional requirements, ICDs, and verification planning.
• Proficiency with IBMDOORS or CAMEO for requirements management.
• Knowledge of CMMI, DO178C, and MISRA‑C processes.
• Experience with hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing and lab demonstration coordination.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience as a software engineer, including embedded firmware or application code development.
• Experience on integrated system software projects delivered by multiple vendors or internal teams.
• Direct exposure to nuclear surety or nuclear safety programs and related standards.
• Familiarity with model‑based systems engineering (MBSE) tools such as SysML, IBMRhapsody, and Cameo.
• INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) or equivalent certification.

Salary and Benefits

Primary level salary range: $122,800 – $184,200. Northrop Grumman considers multiple factors when determining base salary offers. Additional compensation may include overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses. Employees may be eligible for long‑term incentives based on rank.
