In close collaboration with functions across the company and with external partners, we integrate advanced statistical methodology and modern data science capabilities with deep scientific and business understanding. Together we support robust evidence generation and smart, timely, and confident decision‑making throughout the drug development life cycle.

As we continue to transform BDS into a modern data science organization in late‑phase clinical development, built to succeed in an environment of rapid and continuous change, we are seeking a strong methodology and technical leader within the Decision Science and Methodology Statistics capability cluster. The role will lead the Simulation Hub, a global expert team which builds and connects scalable simulations to support clinical development needs, and help teams use simulations broadly and consistently when evaluating innovation trial designs and planned analyses to maximize probability of technical and regulatory success of clinical development. The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise in both statistical simulation and methodology, lead the Simulation Hub team, be part of the Decision Science and Methodology Statistics cluster and represent BDS expertise on trial simulations cross the Medicine organization globally.

As an employee of Boehringer Ingelheim, you will actively contribute to the discovery, development and delivery of our products to our patients and customers. Our global presence provides opportunity for all employees to collaborate internationally, offering visibility and opportunity to directly contribute to the companies' success. We realize that our strength and competitive advantage lie with our people. We support our employees in a number of ways to foster a healthy working environment, meaningful work, mobility, networking and work-life balance. Our competitive compensation and benefit programs reflect Boehringer Ingelheim's high regard for our employees.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide visionary, scientific, technical, and strategic leadership for the BDS Simulation Hub and translate the Hub vision into clear priorities and an actionable roadmap.
  • Lead and develop the Simulation Hub team, creating clarity on priorities, roles, ways of working, and shared accountability.
  • Partners with BDS development teams, therapeutic area statisticians, methodology statisticians, and other Medicine functions to identify high-value simulation needs early in clinical development.
  • Lead or guide simulation and methodology work for complex development questions, including trial-design evaluation, dose finding, go/no-go decisions, adaptive and Bayesian methods, probability of success, and program-level decisions in collaboration with other Methodology Statisticians to bring scalability to innovation.
  • Ensure that simulation work uses sound methodology, clear assumptions, appropriate sensitivity analyses, reproducible implementation, and decision-focused interpretation.
  • Drive the development and adoption of reusable R and Python-based simulation code, templates, tools, and applications, with suitable documentation, testing, code review, quality control, and version management.
  • Promote efficient use of scalable computing, parallel simulation, automated summaries, and interactive visualization where these add value.
  • Communicate simulation results and complex statistical concepts clearly to both statisticians and non-statisticians.
  • Represent BDS and the Simulation Hub in Medicine-wide discussions, cross-functional initiatives, and relevant external collaborations.
  • Build simulation capability across BDS through training, communities of practice, consultation, knowledge sharing, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Monitor new developments in simulation, statistical methodology, and software tools, and lead the evaluation and implementation of high-impact approaches.

  • Lead highly complex, ambiguous, and high-impact problems that may span programs, therapeutic areas, or functions and may have limited precedent.
  • Influence BDS and Medicine strategy by identifying where simulation can improve major development, evidence, investment, or portfolio decisions.
  • Serve as a senior BDS representative and recognized authority in major cross-functional initiatives and external scientific interactions.
  • Build a sustainable global capability with clear governance, standards, scalable platforms, partnership models, and talent development.
