Job summary

Qorvo in Hillsboro, OR is seeking a Sr Principal Design Engineer to lead RF/microwave power amplifier development. You will design, simulate, characterize, and support production of high-performance modules for wireless applications.

You will use ADS and HFSS for simulations, develop matching networks, conduct load- and source-pull tests, and collaborate with filter and switch designers to improve yields and enable new products for high-volume manufacturing.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering.
• 10+ years of RF semiconductor experience.
• ADS and HFSS EM simulation experience required.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Experience with RF measurement equipment (spectrum and network analyzers).

Responsibilities

• Design, simulate, develop, characterize, and provide production support for RF and microwave power amplifiers.
• Design input, output, and interstage matching networks to optimize gain, efficiency, bandwidth, and linearity.
• Conduct load-pull, source-pull, harmonic balance, stability, and EM simulations.
• Interface with filter designers and Ant Switch designer; collaborate with product engineering to improve yields.
• Act as technical leader and assign work to RF technicians.
• Characterize and validate designs and test benches (Sig Gen, Spec An, Power Meter, VNA, probe station).

Job Summary:

• Work in a fast-paced team environment developing modules for wireless communications applications. Job responsibilities include design, simulation, development, characterization, and production support of RF and microwave power amplifiers used in wireless communications. Design input, output, and interstage matching networks to optimize gain, efficiency, bandwidth, and linearity. Conduct load-pull, source-pull, harmonic balance, stability, and EM simulations.
• The position will interface with filter designers and Ant Switch designer and working with product engineering to improve yields and help introduce new products to manufacturing.
• Simulation tools such as Agilent ADS, and HFSS will be used for design and Module laminate.
• Act as liaison between design engineering, product engineering and characterization engineering to ensure designs are robust and have margin for high volume production.
• Responsible for all aspects of circuit design and product development, including working as a technical leader with team to find optimum solutions to the problems, feedback on specification and assigning work responsibility to RF technicians.
• Characterize and validate design and work on Test benches including Sig Gen, Spec An, Power Meter, VNA and probe-station to test and evaluate modules.

Qualifications:

• M.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering
• 10+ years of experience in RF semiconductors is a must, laminate experience desirable.
• ADS, and HFSS EM simulation experience is a mandatory.
• Excellent speaking, presentation skills a must, ability to clearly communicate technical and/or logistic issues and solutions.
• Detail oriented to ensure design and delivery of high yielding products.
• Must be experienced with RF measurement equipment such as spectrum analyzers and network analyzers.
• Be able to enjoy working in fast paced work environment.
