Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Sr. Principal Cyber Software Engineer for on-site work in Honolulu, HI. The role focuses on developing secure software solutions, coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams, and ensuring compliance with stringent security standards.

Qualifications

• Proficient with C++ and/or Java 21+; backend and frontend development.
• Experience with data flow technologies and networking (UDP/TCP).
• Experience with messaging brokers.

The Northrop Grumman Classified Solutions team is seeking a Sr. Principal Cyber Software Engineer. The selected candidate will be required to work on-site, full-time at our Honolulu, HI location.

Note: Due to the classified nature of the work being performed, this position does not offer any virtual or telecommute working options. Applicants are encouraged to apply, only if they are willing to work on-site.

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Develop solutions to national security threats with products that may involve software engineering, messaging systems, infrastructure engineering, and vulnerability research of network and communication systems.
• Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
• Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.
• Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.
• Software development including with scripting languages.
• Ensures software standards are met.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline and 8 years of related professional experience in engineering, or a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related professional experience in engineering.
• The selected candidate must have a current, in-scope U.S. Government Top Secret/SCI security clearance with an investigation completed within the last 6 years or be enrolled in the U.S. Government Continuous Evaluation Program; the required security clearance must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
• Candidate must be able to obtain a Special Access Program (SAP) clearance before a start date can be established; maintaining the required SAP clearance will be a condition of continued employment.
• Extensive experience engineering and sustaining systems in a highly cybersecure, highly regulated, operational environment
• C++ and/or Java 21+ Proficiency, including backend service development and frontend interfaces
• Experience with data flow technologies and networking, including UDP, TCP, and hybrid protocols
• Experience with development and system sustainment of messaging brokers

Preferred Qualifications

• M.S. degree in Computer Science, STEM or related technical field
• Deep knowledge of US Government messaging standards like UCI, Link-16, J-Series
• Familiarity working in multi-level security domains, including with cross-domain solutions
• Enterprise Integration Patterns (EIP): Proficiency with Spring Integration or Apache Camel to build robust adapters and message routers
• Backend development experience with C++, Java 21+/Spring Boot service leveraging MongoDB or Elasticsearch
• Frontend development experience with Angular, React or Vue.js
• Asynchronous Messaging: JMS (Java Message Service) specifically with ActiveMQ Classic – including connection pooling, message persistence, and dead-letter queue (DLQ) management
• Proficiency with containerization technologies
• Familiarity of Agentic AI software development tools

Primary Level Salary Range: $149,300.00 - $223,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
