Job summary

KLA is hiring a Precision Mechanical Design Engineer in Ann Arbor, MI to design precision motion systems for advanced semiconductor equipment. You will handle CAD modeling, prototyping, testing, and continuous improvement through multidisciplinary collaboration with controls, systems, and manufacturing teams.

The role requires deep expertise in precision machine design, FEA, vibration and thermal analysis, and CAD tools such as Creo/NX/SolidWorks.

Qualifications

• PhD, MS, or BS with related work experience in precision mechanical design.
• Deep understanding of precision machine design and motion system architecture.
• Experience with precision positioning systems, flexures, or high‑performance automation.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop next‑generation precision motion systems for semiconductor equipment.
• Own designs from concept through prototype, test, and product implementation.
• Perform mechanical analysis including FEA, structural dynamics, vibration, and thermal analysis.

Job Overview

Precision Mechanical Design Engineer – responsible for designing precision motion systems for advanced semiconductor equipment. This hands‑on engineering role involves CAD, analysis, prototype development, testing, and continuous improvement of mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop next‑generation precision motion systems for semiconductor equipment.
• Own designs from concept through prototype, test, and product implementation.
• Perform mechanical analysis including finite element analysis (FEA), structural dynamics, vibration analysis, and thermal analysis.
• Apply precision engineering principles such as kinematic constraint, flexure design, thermal stability, tolerance analysis, and precision mechanisms.
• Create detailed CAD models, engineering drawings, and documentation.
• Design, procure, assemble, test, and refine prototype motion systems.
• Collaborate with systems, controls, manufacturing, and physics teams to solve multidisciplinary challenges.
• Influence technical direction and contribute directly to key design decisions.

Qualifications

• Passionate about mechanical design and creating elegant engineering solutions.
• Deep understanding of precision machine design and motion system architecture.
• Experience with precision positioning systems, flexures, precision mechanisms, or high‑performance automation equipment.
• Strong analytical foundation with expertise in FEA, structural dynamics, vibration analysis, and thermal analysis.
• Advanced CAD proficiency (Creo, NX, SolidWorks, or similar).
• Ability to balance first‑principles engineering with practical design execution.
• Minimum Qualifications:
  • Doctorate (Academic) and 3 years of related work experience.
  • Master’s Level Degree and 6 years of related work experience.
  • Bachelor’s Level Degree and 8 years of related work experience.

Pay & Location

Base Pay Range: $120,700.00 – $205,200.00 annually. Primary Location: USA – MI – Ann Arbor.
